Re: honeymoon budget
5k is our budget and we don't want to go over at all!
We're gonna try to not use the $ from the wedding towards it.

Re: honeymoon budget
We were totally against it at first but ended up at about 15k. No, we're not rich! We're just taking a once in a lifetime trip. We know we want to go to Italy and see as much as possible at some point in our lives - and we don't want it to be 30 years from now - so we said the heck with it and booked it. The flight, hotels, and transport between cities come to 10k and then we're estimating 5k in food, activities and purchases. It'll take a year to recoup that money but we'll always have Italy.

We're in the same boat. Ours is currently about 17k, but might be closer to 15k with airline miles. This is likely to be our one and only trip to Australia and will be our longest vacation pre-retirement, so we want to make it the trip of a lifetime.

Re: honeymoon budget
we're doing a 12 night cruise around hawaii for about $4700 (including flights, the cruise, and 2 extra days of hotels) ... and then we're estimating another $500-ish for spending money.

Re: honeymoon budget
At first, I budgeted 5k (but we couldn't swing that) Luckily, the place we're going is only 3k. Unfortunately, we'll have to use our gifts as spending $$.

Re: honeymoon budget
To me, if you can do it then do it! The opportunity may never present itself again.
Of course we'll be living off of canned goods for the next year but it'll be worth it for the great food we'll have while there!

Re: honeymoon budget
we are spending 3450 on the hm itself for 9 nights including flights, all meals and drinks. for any spending money, that is the only thing i am willing to use the wedding money for. i dont expect to spend more than 600 while were there. itll be for excursions and any shopping, transportation only

Re: honeymoon budget
Our budget is $5000 and we will have more than that by the time the wedding rolls around...I didn't want to use wedding $ for that since we're going to have to use wedding $ for our albums.

Re: honeymoon budget
FH is covering all the costs of the HM, so he expects his budget to be around 3-5K. However, if we set up a HM Registry, we may get $$ to pay for part of the HM - so we plan to add extra excursions and use it for nice upgrades (first class plane tickets, etc).

Re: honeymoon budget
At first my budget was 8k, and then FH i discussed that no matter we are travelers and love to travel why add the pressure on saving even more money on top of the wedding saving and planning when we make it a point to go somewhere every year (Excluding the time in between engagement Dec2008- May 2010) We figured we could live a year without a 'Tropical ' vacation and really didnt have the time with traveling back and forth to NY for wedding planning anyway.
So we were originally looking into Tahiti/Bora Bora, Greece, Hawaii but with all said above we also didnt want to add another long plane ride on top of it all since we have to travel from Dallas to NY for the wedding. Then NY to Honeymooon and then Honeymoon home. So we went with length of vacation with the shortest flight. Jamaica 13 days, all inclusive. 4 nights Ocho Rios and 8 nights Negril 6K Total.

Re: honeymoon budget
As you know, FH and I registered for a HM since we live together. I think it will offset the cost by almost half...which is great. As for excursions and upgrades...many people suggested we wait to do it or ask for them there b/c it will cost a lot less or they may do it free....(our wish).
