Okay, so, I'm graduating this year w/ my masters in upper elementary. We'll be living in a rural town in virginia for a few years, so i'll need to find a teaching job here... There should be openings, and i do technically work for the district i want to work for already (i tutor in an after school program). I've also done several practicums there, and will be student teaching in the county in a few weeks.
There is a job far in Feb that i hope to get a job at...
So, FH and i have pretty much decided that we want to go to the new Sandals Resort (Whitehouse) for our honeymoon - but I was afraid to book in case I don't have a job and get called in for an interview that week that we would be away. Thing is, the 40% off promotion ends on the 23rd of this month - and we can't afford it without the discount.
So, do we book and pray that I get a job before the wedding?
Or, do we hold off and just go somewhere else that is more in our price range.
TIA!

Book it. You may get a job before or after. But I would say book it. You can schedule interviews around your vacation.

Debs, totally book it! Even if you don't have a job by that time, I think it's absolutely reasonable for you to say to them 'I cannot come in for an interview the week of X because I'll be on my honeymoon.' If you don't do it then, you'll never do it.

hmm, thanks what i'm thinking. the thing i'm just thinking about is that in education, schools are notorious for opening up classrooms like a week before the year begins due to a surge in enrollment...

Re: Honeymoon Dillema
We booked our honeymoon at Sandals Whitehouse with trip insurance...so if we have to cancel for ANY reason, we get all our money back (minus the cost of the insurance) It also covers lost luggage, illness, injury, etc..... If you want the name of the travel agent that gave me THE BEST price (thanks to SomethingBlu for recommending her to me) her name is Hayley and she works for www.beachbumvacations.com
FH and I met with about 7 different agents and called her and she gave us the cheapest price, and she was SOOOOOO FRIENDLY! Her husband just got back from Whitehouse 2 days ago and said it blows the doors off of their other resorts. This is gonna be a PHENOMENAL place!
FM me if you want Hayley's #

I was coming on here to write this same thing...get the insurance ($99 per person) and recommend Hayley - but thanks neesiepie!
Yes, get the insurance, that way if something happens you can cancel your trip and lost $200 bucks...and Hayley's awesome!
Good luck!

Re: Honeymoon Dillema
On another note, every school counseling job I interviewed for happened in June or July. Districts like to have personnel in place by August and a lot of them go on shutdown those first two weeks in August if they operate on a regular school year(Sept-June) schedule. At least its been this way when I have worked in NY and CA. I am only assuming VA would be the same way.
Just some extra reassurance

Thanks christine! I'm assuming that if i'm going to have a job, it will be before august... i just know of a few friends last year who didn't get jobs until a week before orientation... but i think that was due to a lot of budget problems throughout the state...
Plus, at this point, almost half the girls in my program already have jobs - districts seem to be eating us up Hopefully my district will do the same for me.

Book it. If something comes up, you can tell the interviewer you are going on your honeymoon, and the vast majority of ppl will be understanding. How exciting!

As everyone has said...book it! This is the one time in your life that nothing else should really matter and things will work out. Where in VA are you? I am planning my LI wedding from Northern Virginia. Jean
