We are on a super budget and considering foregoing the HM, but we really don't want to.... I'll be a teacher, so it won't be able to be in October -- probably President's week in February....
what do you lovely ladies think? We just want someplace warm where we can veg.... neither of us are big on clubbing or things like that... so mellow, b ut with nice restaurants on premises and option to go out would be great.... all inclusive works, too....

President's week is going to be TOUGH, its such a huge high season for warm locations because the schools are off.
I would look into Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We did 5 nights and flight all-inclusive in early February for about $2200 .

I really think you could go anywhere for less than $2K for a week. You just have to be willing to put the time in to research it, and sacrafice on a few things. Maybe shorten it to 4-5 days, fly on off days (Tuesday, Wednesday), etc ...
I know you can get great deals in Jamaica and Bahamas. What about a cruise? Those are all inclusive, and you can get great rates. There's always Florida (the Keys, Miami) and California (Napa, San Diego, San Fran). Sometimes the package deals turn out to be more than if you search for flight, hotel, etc ... piecemeal.
I always use sites like Travelocity, Hotwire, Priceline, Orbitz to research, and have gotten some great deals off of them. Another thing worth trying for a hotel, if available, is Priceline. A lot of people are really against it, but I've used it for hotels and never had a problem. It's the flights that can be sketchy. Last time I used it I ended up in the Venetian in Las Vegas (5* hotel) for $110 a night over a weekend! If you're flexible about things you'll always get a better deal.

I would say Florida because you could stay for a good length of time at a nice hotel and have nice meals for under 2K total.
You could price out the caribbean.
Cruises - make sure that you are paying about 1500 total for hte cruise because you will need around $500 for tips (this is not included and they hit you with it on your last day) + any spending money + any alcohol that you drink or things that you purchase on board. If you go during an off time, like Feb., you may be able to get a good deal though.

I also saw a post about the Dominican Republic, which is supposed to be a good deal, and I've heard the same about Puerto Vallerta in Mexico. People are sometimes hesitant to go to these two, but they're supposed to be very beautiful. There's just some parts of the rest of the country that aren't ideal for honeymoon travel, but I don't think you're affected by that at the major resorts.

President's week is tough. The airfare is usually pretty high then.
If you could do it without leaving or returning on a Saturday or Sunday you might be better off (like take a day or two off of work and go like Thurs-Thurs).

yeah cruises are a great way to save money and still have a great HM...
also, try almond beach all inclusive resorts in st. lucia or barbados... we are going there in may b/c we won a trip and when researching the place i saw some of their normal prices and they seemed very reasonable. the all-inclusive part is great too! HTH

there are so many options (and so many all-inclusive options) for under that amount.
IMO I'd try to book it yourselves and save the yourself the headache of a travel agent. Sandals, Breezes, Couples resorts go on sale all the time. Cruises are another great option...
Check out orbitz, expedia, travelocity and the various resort websites. You'll have plenty to choose from.

Definately try the Dominican republic.....We went for 9 days 8 nights Memorial Day week and we paid under 2000 for 2 people all-inclusive in a honeymoon suite room....Was very nice!!!

You can definitely do the Caribbean for $2k. Just can't stay at the 5 star hotels.
Also, Februrary is off-peak for Europe. You could go to Italy or Spain for super cheap. The flights will be cheaper as will the hotels.
I went to Italy last year for Valentine's Day. It was FREEZING. I don't think I enjoyed it as much because I was constantly cold.

President's week is going to be really tough. I am going on my hm in the week of Feb. 5 and the prices were a little higher, the TA told me after that week the prices are sky high. Remember President's week is a big vacation week.
I would try Dominican Republic. I have been there twice and loved it. I never stayed in Punta Cana, but I have been to Puerto Plata for about $900 per person and Juan Dolio Beach for about $600 per person, yes, LOL $600 per person (that was back in 2000). The resort was only a three star, but it was really nice.

As you know, I am getting married the SAt. of President's week. FH is in charge of the honeymoon... we are going to do a Sandals or someother all-inclusive.... he is thinking he can get it under $5000 for both of us... I will see what I can find out from him from his research. but basically, i think the key is to book ASAP... like even start looking now. they are only going to go up in price and president's week is a big traveling week!

I think you best bet is to leave the country- and go some where were the US dollar will take you further
for 2 people incuding airfare, hotel and food is tough- and even harder for presidents week- I would call some travel agents
maybe even try cancun- b/c they are really hurting now

we were supposed to go on a cruise this past february break (but we got engaged and needed every penny) and it was going to be cheap. it was a carnival cruise on the ship Glory if that helps. I think it was 2400 for the two of us for 8days, 7nights and with a balcony room. you can always go for less time and with a lower grade room, they were all pretty
