Honeymoon - Haiwaii

Hello Ladies,

I am not getting married till 2012 but the Honeymoon is very important and before we get broke and can not afford one we want to start looking into cost.

Honestly its more important to me then planning the wedding

If you have gone or planning to go to Hawaii will you be able to give me more information....... How long did you stayed there for and which islands did you visit during your stay.

TIA

Re: Honeymoon - Haiwaii

Here is an email I sent a friend of mine about our HM .. Hope this helps!!

Mamas Fish House is AMAZINGGGG!!!! Best restaurant we went to on Maui! Make absolute sure you guys make it there - and order their signature dish - it's a macadamia nut crusted stuffed Mahi Mahi - its stuffed with crab or lobster (can't remember) IT'S INCREDIBLE!!!!! Also - get dessert - we had some weird name of a pie - cant remember what it was called but it was amazing.

On Maui we stayed at the Grand Wailea. The resort is beautiful. If you stay there ask for room 9012 - its right on the corner and the room is awesome!! Trust me ;)

We rented a Jeep and went to Lahaina one day. We ate at Cheeseburger in Paradise. Not the chain - even though they have their name. Its right on the beach and its awesome - get their bloody mary - its perfect! Go there for breakfast - their breakfast is SO good. Lahaina has a bunch of awesome shopping and its just a cool area to walk around :)

Definitely do the Road to Hana. On the way there you will pass a little town. Go into one of the places that has the signs saying that they pack lunches for the Road to Hana. You'll see a lot of places like this. I cant remember the name of the place we went to but it was a first name. Like Edwards or something? They pack a cooler with sandwiches, chips, cookies. Driving it was a bit scary at times because its soooo narrow in some spots and its all cliffs so BE CAREFUL!! But yeah - definitely worth checking out. When you're driving there make sure to stop and park at the State Park (takes about 3 hours to get there). We walked the trails and had lunch by the waterfalls. You can even go swimming by the falls! Its GORGEOUS.

One night we went to Cafe O'lei in Kihei. That was okay - good not great - there's better places to go. Go to Nick's at the Fairmont. We didnt make it there but I heard great things!!

That's really it for Maui - otherwise we just stayed at the resort. One bad thing our resort had a cloud over it the whole time which blew. But as soon as you drove a bit away - it was bright and sunny. Weird.

Maui was very commercial. It was just okay. We LOVEDDDD Kauai!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Kauai stay on Poipu beach - its the sunnier/drier side of the island from what I hear. Our weather was perfect every day! If theres anything you listen to me about for your trip its that you must check out the Koa Kea in Kauai. Its a smaller boutique luxury hotel. They treat you like royalty. The hotel is gorgeous. The service cannot be beat. They have a restaurant called Red Salt - SO good. Right next door is a restaurant called Plantation Garden - also very good and pretty :) Down the road they have a mall-like area. Roys is there - eat there if you havent been to a Roys. Also - across from Roys is another place. I cannot remember the name of it but definitely go there and DEFINITELY have the Hula Pie - TRUST ME!!!! Its fukking amazing (so good that yes, I had to curse when describing it) .. haha

We rented a Jeep here too. We went to the Waimea Canyons. Go there - the views are incredible. We got lunch and brought it with us - make sure you do that. We got out at all the lookouts and had lunch. At one of the stops there was a stand where they were selling fresh and dried fruit. If you like coconut - make sure you get the shredded dried coconut - SO SO GOOD!!!!

Also - make 100% sure you do a boat tour around the Na Poli Coast. If you go to Kauai and do not do this you are wasting a trip to this island! This was the highlight of our trip! We did a sunset dinner cruise. It was so sick! We saw dolphins jumping out of the water, sea turtles, flying fish, goats on the cliffs. Felt like we were watching Planet Earth DVD's!!! AMAZING!!!!!

If I think of anything else I'll let you know but if you have any questions - please ask!

Re: Honeymoon - Haiwaii

Just got back from 2 weeks on MAUI!! We had the TIME of our lives! Despite my 2 SILs urging us to split our time between the island we decided to stay put on Maui and spend half our time on the west coast and half on the south coast!

We did the Ritz in Kapalua and the Marriott in Wailea! There are SOOOOOOO many things to do on Maui and THE most gorgeous beaches...many of which have won 'American's Best Beach' at one point or another....

FM if you'd like specifics! Lanai is a short ferry ride away and many ppl do intraisland flights to kauai!

Maui is soooo tropical and the landscapes are breathtaking!

we wanted to see the entire state (all islands) and hate inter-island flights ... so we did a cruise. Ours was from Vancouver Canada, had 6 days at sea, followed by 6 days on the four islands (12 days total) with Carnival. But they also have Norwegian 7 day cruises from Oahu and back.

We really liked it

ETA: and it was more affordable than getting hotels and whatnot.

Re: Honeymoon - Haiwaii

Yes, Hawaii is expensive. This is your honeymoon and the chances of getting to Hawaii in the near future are slim.

We did Hawaii two years ago. I did land and a cruise. We sailed with NCL - 7 day cruise. We chose this cruise line because of the 7 days. I would definely do the cruise again. We enjoyed the ship and the islands. You can check out the prices as you get closer to the wedding.

Another thing we did was get the Alaska Airline Visa card. They offer a companion fare ticket for $99. Yes there is a fee for the credit card but when push comes to shove you are ahead of paying for two tickets. They also give you miles when you apply for the card. We used the miles to upgrade to first class. Well worth it.

I had a great travel agent - FM me if you want her number.

we went to hawaii for our HM. we did the NCL cruise. it was great. we stayed in waikiki for 2 days - so we could go to pearl harbor, then boarded the ship. we got 2 days in maui, 1 day in hilo, 1 day in kona, then an overnight in kauai. they had lots of fun excursions too. it wasn't all that expensive either.

This far in advance, all you can really book would be your hotel rooms... air doesnt become published until like 340 days before travel.... (im a travel agent)

Im thinking of Hawaii myself and Im thinking of using a tour operator, or just doing a few days in vegas.... and 2 islands in hawaii - so up in the air!

I would recommend you def go to a travel agent and at least get 2011 prices so you know what you are looking at! :)
