Im getting married in June 2012 and my FH and I still cant decide between Italy and Hawaii for our honeymoon. We are both Italian. He has been to Italy quite a few times to visit family (not as a tourist though) and I would really like to know more about my heritage. But on the other hand we also love the sun and the beach and Italy doesnt really seem known for their beaches which is somewhat disappointing. Also Im hoping to spend no more than $6000 for 2 weeks. ( hope thats realistic) I really don't know when we will be able to do a big trip like this again and just not sure about which place to choose! Have any of you girls been to either place? Which would you suggest??? Thanks!

The thing you need to decide on is which type of HM do you want/need to take.....
Italy will be alot of touring and not alot of rest. Traveling from one town/city to the next. Rushing rushing - on line at the Vatacan - on line in Florence to see the David - lots to do and alot of things to 'get in' before you leave whereas Hawaii, yes you have some things to 'see' and do, most of it can be relaxing. After planning a wedding, you need alot of rest and together time. You mentioned that FH has family in Italy, well maybe at another time you can go visit and stay with them and it won't cost as much as an Italy trip now.

i've been to italy numerous times. You can def have a 'fun in the sun' type of honeymoon in Italy.
-The amalfi coast is GORGEOUS!!!! Beach-- restaurants-- relaxation!!!!!!
Also sicily in June is HOTTTTTT and there are tons of places for you to stay. Beaches are awesome and the people are the BEST!

We are going to Hawaii for 2 weeks right after our June 30th wedding. We are spending a bit more than you mentioned, but we are staying at higher end hotels - so I think your budget is doable! Go to Hawaii... it's relaxing, beautiful, and you can still site see and be active if you want!

I am actually having the same issue, so happy you posted this. FH really wants to do Italy (europe) and I dont mind going anywhere in Europe too. But for our honey moon I Really want somewhere where we can relax on the beach, get a nice tan and also I want great night life. I did think about going to Hawaii as well but it really seems very boring to me.

Both places are beautiful...i feel Hawaii is a relaxing honeymoon and Italy is more of a sight seeing one...my fiance and I were having trouble deciding on a hotel so what we did was write out top choice on a piece of paper without showing each other and when we revealed it...it was the same hotel so we were able to make a decision...i donno if that would help

FH and I went to Hawaii for two weeks about a year ago. We went to Oahu and Maui. Maui is the best. I've been to kuai too and it was great, but Maui is the best ever! In Oahu, Fh and I stayed at the Royal hawaiian. It's pricey but worth it. If it's out of range, the Sheraton is right next to it and we spent some time over there as well and it is a great property! In Maui, there are two hotel areas: ka'anapali beach and wailea. I prefer ka'anapali beach because there is more to do, but you can't go wrong with either. We stayed at the westin ka'anapali and had the most amazing time!

FH and I were debating between going to Europe or a beachy place too. We luckily got the opportunity to go to Germany this past August and after going I am really happy we decided to do something beachy and relaxing for our HM. When we were in Germany we ALWAYS had something to go sight see and look at. Don't get me wrong it was AMAZING and Italy is def different then Germany, but if you don't mind sight seeing a lot then def go to Europe! I personally would rather waste away on a beach for HM

Hi! thanks for your post! Yeah I understand what you mean, we started to think same thing about all of the sightseeing and no relaxation. So we decided on going to Hawaii! Im the type that could def waste away on the beach also! Now we just have to figure out which islands to go to.

We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon in September. We loved it!!we stayed in the Grand Hyatt Resort in both Maui and Kuai, but we loved the one in Kaui so much more! There were renovations going on in the hyatt in Maui so we were a little annoyed at that but it was such a beautiful place that it really didnt matter! Hawaii is such an amazing honeymoon spot because you can relax and sight see if you wanted to. We did both!Don't worry about money! You only get one honeymoon and may only have this opportunity to spend big! We don't regret any of our decisions! If you do a lay over in Cali fly first class from their home or from their to Hawaii. It's so cheap! Best of luck!!!
