My cousin's did Rome for their honeymoon but like 10 years ago.
I can ask her if she remembers where she stayed.
Other family members did a tour of italy like 2 summers ago. I can get info from them too if you want

Re: Honeymoon in italy
we went to Rome in the end of feb stayed at the hotel cosmopolitan which was located right by the typewriter building. It was a good location, but a death trap waiting to happen. Whatever you do just follow the locals when they cross the streets!!!!

Re: Honeymoon in italy
I lived around the corner from this Hotel and had my family stay there when they visited me. It's in an amazing location- around the corner from Campo di Fiori and a few blocks from Piazza Novona, Pantheon etc.
If it's an area I would personally choose, I would look in the Largo Argentina area since it is super close to everything and easily accessible to major sites.
Check out the Minerva Hotel. It's across from the Patheon and has a great restaurant on the rooftop with an excellent view.
Hotels I would avoid are on Vittorio Veneto. Now although this is an area where most tourists stay (there are many fancier hotels on this street) it's out of the way and not really 'Roman' in terms of restaurants and feel.
Lastly, although I personally think the area near the Spanish steps are a bit out of the way, there are some excellent hotels in this area. I would check out the Hassler Hotel in this area.
If you need any pointers, feel free to FM me :)

We stayed at the Hotel Trevi which is very central... About 10 seconds from the Trevi Fountain, and about a max 20 minute or less walk to everything except the Vatican (we took the subway there). It was nice, and got the job done for us. The price was fair... Although you'll find that everything is tiny in Italy unless you're paying big bucks!

I'm also planning a HM to Italy! I'm at the beginning of the research, but looking to visit Rome, Florence and Venice. Then, we want to go to Positano on the Amalfi coast. Any recommendations on hotels or restaurants would be great!

Positano is great- while you're there, check out Sorrento and Capri!

I lived around the corner, too! My architecture studio was across the street, and I lived on the Piazza Paradiso, just off Campo!
I would definitely reccomend to historic center since you can walk everywhere, and the characters on the public transportation are shady at best! AVOID the area around Termini!

Re: Honeymoon in italy
I totally know where you lived!
I lived on Via Margherita (right where Benneton is) off of Corso Vittorio Emmanuele and then I moved to a place on Via Giubbonari around the corner from Campo

My favorite Restaurants in Rome:
1. La Scala- Trastevere 2. Pier Luigi's- Around from Campo di Fiori 3. Supper Club- Via de Nari 4. I Piani- Parioli 5. Dukes- Pariloi- great place for drinks
If you go to the Amalfi Coast, the towns are close enough so that you can easily explore the Coast easily.

Re: Honeymoon in italy
I have the site for a great tour company. They picked us up at the Rome airport and dropped us at out hotel. The next day we did an eight hour tour of Rome. We went from site to site. They gave us all the history. We would not have been able to see all that we did. The last day in Rome we did a Vatican tour. The same company provided a tour guide for the Vatican.
From Rome we traveled by train to Tuscany. Stopped in Florence for the day and then ended up in Lucca for a few days. We visited a winery and enjoyed the day. We then left Lucca and ended up in Venice.
FM me if you want the info.

I love love love love love love Positano - it is beautiful!!!!! The best hotel to stay for a honeymoon is Le Sirene - it is expensive though. I've always gone with family and stayed at hotel Pasitea which is a really nice hotel, we got a room with a hot tub in it and a balcony where we had breakfast - here's a pic of my parents having breakfast on their balcony at Hotel Pasitea and you can see the view behind them: http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd487/positanochick/parentsinpositano.jpg
