We will be traveling to Mexico mid July, the insurance is $280 for the two of us. My question is, is it really necessary. My travel agent said that we have to make up our mind by tomorrow, we haven't had time to really look into it or get advice/opinions. Can you ladies tell me what you think. Without it, is there really no way to cancel a trip?

Re: Honeymoon insurance
I normally skip the insurance for trips but I feel like with a honeymoon it's kinda a big deal, so we went forward with it. I don't want to be in tears during honeymoon time over $200 I should have spent earlier JMO

Re: Honeymoon insurance
Trip insurance is a safeguard for 'just in case' situations. You never know when you would need to fly home for some emergency. I would read the insurance policy. Ask you TA for a copy - she should be able to print a copy - especially if she is using a tour company. Just read the policy and see what it would cover. If it covers loss of luggage, medical situations or cancellation of flight, (emergency situation where you would need to fly home, etc. then it just might be worth it).
If you do not want to use her trip insurance, try STA travel on line. Look for insurance - it will be alot cheaper and probably covers the same things. We have bought trip insurance through STA in the past and have been lucky enough to not need any of the coverages. The policy should be no where near $280!

Re: Honeymoon insurance
What insurance is it? You may want to look into getting it yourself. The Am Ex Global Travel Shield should cost less than that. To be honest, you want it to cover emergencies- weather, health, and delays.
We got the AmEx one last summer for a month long trip through Europe, it covered extra health insurance, emergency flights home in case something happened, daily money in case of delays or luggage displacement....and we paid $250. For a month! 2 weeks should cost like $170.
We used STA a few years ago on a 2 week trip to Peru, and we paid $140.
