Honeymoon - Name Change Question
When booking the flights/hotels for your honeymoon, are you using your current name or your future name? My passport doesn't expire until 2018, but do I have to renew it for my new name before the honeymoon? How does this work? Thanks in advance for any answers

That's actually part of the issue - we're getting married 1/4/14, but our honeymoon will be 1/13/14-1/29/14. I just want to make sure I'm not barred from the country or going to get stuck in a cage in customs! (My friend had a bad experience getting thrown in jail in Mexico City due to an expired passport...and the US let her fly! So I'm super nervous!)
So I wouldn't file for any name changes until I get home from the honeymoon? (Sorry I'm clueless with this!)

Don't worry about your name change until your return from your honeymoon. I don't think you will receive the marriage certificate back until after you leave and you definitely won't receive the new passport with the name change.
If you are nervous, tell no one that you are married (in the airport) and you should not have any problems with customs.

Honeymoon - Name Change Question
I'm changing my name ASAP, and we aren't going on our HM until 2 months after the wedding, so all of my travel stuff says my FH's last name. But if you are going that close to your wedding, I would just leave it and wait until you get back to change your name.

your name change on your passport is free within 1 year of getting your passport (new or renewed), after 1 year it is the regular renewal fee.

Be careful with DMV - they tell you it can take up to 4 weeks to get your new license.
Remember to bring your title to your car when you go to DMV, you actually get your title re-issued in your new name FREE of charge when you do your license, registration & title at the same time.

That's fine. I'm figuring I'll get the marriage license 2 - 3 weeks after the wedding. Which would still give me about 8 weeks until the honeymoon. Thanks for the tip about the title!

Honeymoon - Name Change Question
Your passport name just needs to match the name your airline ticket is under (maiden name).

You might get your license sooner. We left for our honeymoon 10 days after and had our license beforehand. I mailed out for my ss card in the meantime and got it back today.

Re: Honeymoon - Name Change Question
I would book the ticket in your maiden name so your passport matches. We had to delay our honeymoon but when I booked everything I did it in my maiden name. HTH

Honeymoon - Name Change Question
Book in your maiden name, if the booking name doesn't match your passport you won't be able to travel. Your honeymoon is so close to your wedding that you definitely won't have time to get in changed beforehand.

Re: Honeymoon - Name Change Question
Unfortunately, I've been married before, but it helps in this situation!I would book everything in your maiden name. It takes about 2-3 weeks to get the marriage certificate and in order to change your passport you have to mail your original marriage certificate and your old passport to them. Unfortunately, they do charge you the same fee as getting a new passport. Maybe if it's really new they don't, but otherwise the full fee.
The first thing you have to do is ure driver's license. They give you a temporary and it takes a few weeks to get the original.
It took about a month and change to get my passport back, not including all the other time I waited to receive the marriage license and all that nonsense. You can pay a rush fee if you need to, but why have that stress!
I booked everything in my maiden name and we can deal with all that when we get back. Unfortunately, I have changed my name twice, so I am a pro!

Honeymoon - Name Change Question
I used my maiden name when we booked for our honeymoon. It was one less thing to think about during the whole wedding planning. When I got back from our honeymoon, that's when I changed my last name.Welcome New Vendors
