honeymoon - now or later? (sorry long)

Original post by melissaandsean

So, I know most people take their honeymoon's right after the wedding. Would you be upset or bothered if you were going to have to take it months later? Or would you insist on taking it right after the wedding?

--

little background as to why I'm asking:

we are getting married in may and FI is a pool salesman and this is their busy time (week before memorial day weekend can be crazy!). He has the potential to make some mad cash and he'd like to wait until Nov/Dec to honeymoon b/c he will be off at that time (his company closes for those two months).

I am being pissy and wanting to take it right after...and the only reason why, that I can think of, is because 'everyone else does' and that's NO good reason. That's stupid, petty and childish. I'd like to not feel that way and be okay with doing it later.

FI said we could still do something for a few days. Wedding is friday night, so he thought we could do something for Sat/Sun/Mon, then he'd go back to work on Tuesday. What could we possibly do though? Any thoughts or ideas?

My FH was worried about money and a Honeymoon right after the wedding. But I remembered my father saying to me that it is so important to take a honeymoon right after the wedding because it really gives you the opportunity to soak in all that happened and to be together just the two of you for at least a week and start the marriage on a great note. But this is JMO. IF it is not feasible to do the HM right after the wedding then a long weekend is still a great idea.

I am doing this - we're getting married April 3rd and are not leaving for our honeymoon until June 6th. I'm a part time grad student and I dont' want to take that much time off of school so we decided to wait until after the semester is over. It turned out better for us because we wouldn't have been able to do our honeymoon in April anyway.

I don't think its a big deal. I may be in the same situation. When I tell people, they freak out. A suggestion for a long weekend--Saratoga Springs. They have nice hotels, its laid back, very good speaks, not too expensive.

Good luck!!!

I dont think there is a rule, you have to do what is best for you guys. you defianately have to get away for a day or so. but if he can make money then that will help you. Fh and i might have to delay too, I lost my job back in aug, started a new one in oct and I hate it, so i am want out but who knows a new company may not be ok with a lot of days off so we have to wait and see i cant turn down a good oppotunity so we have to play it by ear. i guess compromise is what needs to be done. Good luck!!

FH is a teacher so we aren't going on our HM until December.I was a little upset that we wouldn't be able to go right after our wedding,,,but I got over it real quick!!!

The only bad thing is we are leaving on our HM 12-25-05 and returning on 1-1-05..AND we are paying triple since it is during X-mas!!!!

Just our plane tix's alone are costing us $3,600 for first class tix's..and the HYATT is costing us 5,000 (jr suite) for a week stay (not including food).

But we arent worried about the price since it is our HM and we probably will never take a 10,000 vacation again..
