So, I know most people take their honeymoon's right after the wedding. Would you be upset or bothered if you were going to have to take it months later? Or would you insist on taking it right after the wedding?
--
little background as to why I'm asking:
we are getting married in may and FI is a pool salesman and this is their busy time (week before memorial day weekend can be crazy!). He has the potential to make some mad cash and he'd like to wait until Nov/Dec to honeymoon b/c he will be off at that time (his company closes for those two months).
I am being pissy and wanting to take it right after...and the only reason why, that I can think of, is because 'everyone else does' and that's NO good reason. That's stupid, petty and childish. I'd like to not feel that way and be okay with doing it later.
FI said we could still do something for a few days. Wedding is friday night, so he thought we could do something for Sat/Sun/Mon, then he'd go back to work on Tuesday. What could we possibly do though? Any thoughts or ideas?

Re: honeymoon - now or later? (sorry long)
We are taking our HM in June 06 because FH will be in the middle of the semester in November. Plus, it allows us to save a little longer for it. I don't really mind waiting- it kind of stretches out the whole wedding experience so I get to enjoy it more.
if you wanted to go immediately after, i think your short HM idea is a pretty good idea.

I think its a good idea to wait, we were going to also. We are getting married in June and i didnt want to go during hurricane season & i love LI during the summer, so i figured we could wait until Nov.. But then i remembered that i will be in school full time and my daughter will be in school and it its just a lot easier for us to do it in June/july. Just as the wedding excitement is ending you'll be able to hold onto it by going on your honeymoon later

Well I think the weekend thing is a good compromise if it is best in the long run.
It depends on what you like. My friends went the the Poconos for the Honeymoon.
There is also Atlantic City, Cape May in NJ (never been but heard people love it), Marthas Vinyard (my friends did that for their honeymoon and really liked it).
If you could afford the flight you could go to Virgina beach and that area (williamsburg va is fun if you like colonial types of things)
And if you guys really don't want to travle I would say find a B&B in the Hamptons or on Fire Island.
Or you could make him pamper you in NYC, do a spa, shop 5th Ave, stay at the Plaza or NY Palace :)
Good luck

Wow! I thought I was the only one wrestling with this issue! Thank God you posted!
I was feeling exactly the same way, wanting to go on the HM right after simply because 'everyone else does it that way.' Why the hell are we so afraid of what other people will think? They don't live our lives or pay our bills for us. FH and I are paying for this wedding ourselves, with a little help from my parents. We are paying for everything cash and don't want to be in debt. NOTHING is being charged to a credit card except the wedding band I'll buy for him, which he insists he doesn't want anything fancy, just a band to wear that indicates he's a married man.
The bottom line is, we are going to wait until at least August. I've got to move from Queens to NJ (we are not living together prior to the wedding) and there will be a lot of 'settling in' to do (last minute moving, rearranging of household items, etc.) I'd hate to have to come back from a relaxing honeymoon to all that.
If you think it best to wait, wait, and have a great time!

Katherine121 put it very well - it is not LAW you go on yr HM IMMEDIATELY after. It a choice u both make what to do.
We are doing a delayed HM in Oct & a poss cruise next year. We too are paying for everything regarding the wedding ourselves & dont want to strain ourselves.
So we are going to the Cape (NJ shore) for a few days after the wedding.
Kat - i am going to learn NJ very well, I see, will u be near BCM?

Do what is best for you - we are waiting a month to go on the HM because FH is a teacher and we are getting married in May - we are going to Key West for a long weekend right after the wedding. Part of me wishes we were going on the full HM right away because I think after the stress of the wedding it would be nice to get away for a while - but I think having the weekend away will be great and then we have the Hawaii HM to look forward to!!!! Don't worry about what other people think -

We are waiting around a month til we go on our honeymoon because I'm in education and can't go away during the semester. We're having a Saturday night wedding and then driving to Gurney's Inn and Spa the next morning for a few days of pampering. they have all these great spa treatments, a lot of fitness options, the ocean, pools, and great restaurants. We wont be using the ocean since we'll be there in December but it would be great in the springtime!
I have no problem waiting to go on a honeymoon. . . something to look forward to!

I think it is fine to take your HM when ever you want! If possible, take the three days and go to a spa or b&b with your new DH. Some people can't afford more than three days for a HM. So think of your self as lucky and tell everyone that you are going on TWO HM's. One for a few days right after the wedding and one when you have more time. Lisa

me and fh are doing the same thing. fh is a lanscaper and were getting married in oct, so he is just starting to do clean-ups. our wedding is a sunday so were going to go to atlantic city for 3 days and we'll take our disney honeymoon in january. doesnt bother me at all. This way i dont have to worry about money for the honeymoon right now, i can worry about it after the wedding.

we're doing it later... probably a few months later, too!
we will have 2 receptions - one here and one overseas, and between the two, i've already used up all my vactions. so we're waiting till the beginning of next year to go away.
also, it'll give us a chance to save a little before going to spend more money!!!!

I honestly don't think its a big deal to wait. At least you get a honeymoon! Even if its half a year later, there are a lot of people that don't go on honeymoons at all. You can go for a romantic weekend type thing - in poconos or something - and than you in December you'll go on a real honeymoon. I really don't think its that big of a deal. My FI almost didn't get the vacation for the Honeymoon right after, so we were gonna go a whole YEAR later.

We were originally going to go right after the weding, but after talking to some friends who run guided tours, we are now going to Italy with them in October! Fh and I will prolly take a few days by ourselves after the wedding, but just stay around home or go to his family's beach house in CT

Re: honeymoon - now or later? (sorry long)
My FH just got a promotion and he will not be able to take off for a honeymoon after our wedding. I was upset at first. We talked about it and decided that we would go on a beautiful honemoon once he is finished with his training. However, we will be going on a short romantic get-a-way for 2 days after the wedding. I think no matter what we do it will be great! For you guys too

Honestly, I don't think that bothers me at all. I think we will not be taking a honeymoon right away and if you want to do something for three days why not go to the jersey shore or hamptons and stay in a bed and breakfast or hotel for the weekend just to get away. I think its very romantic and will give you time to settle in after the wedding.

No, that might be our situation as well. Since I don't know what my job situation will be. Nothing wrong with it.

We're delaying our big honeymoon for a while... also because of my job. We're likely doing something local for a few days just to get away, and then we'll do something nicer either over winter break (i'm a teacher, fh is in school) or next summer :)
