Honeymoon question

Honeymoon question

I plan on getting married right after I graduate college and I plan on becoming a history teacher. The problem is that if I land a job right away I wasn't sure if I'd be allowed to take off for my honeymoon because my wedding is in October. If anyone knows if more than likely they won't let me take off during the school year, especially since I would be just starting out, please let me know. I have to start saving up for my dream honeymoon now and knowing that I'd have to wait until the following summer to take it would give me extra time to save...although would still be a disappoinment

Re: Honeymoon question

I don't know exactly. I am in the process of getting a new job but my wedding is in May. I made it clear when they made the offer that I will be taking 3 weeks off for the wedding.

If they won't let you, why don't you go away for the Christmas break? This way you don't have to wait so long.

You should first make it clear that you will need this time off for your wedding when they make you an offer. Most places will work with you on something like that.

Let me start by saying that I believe that it varies by school district. I just got a job on LI and was told that I need to petition for the day before my wedding off unpaid. Hmmph. Because contractually you can't take the day before or after a holiday weekend off. We are waiting til a school vacation to honeymoon and Im glad that I didnt book anything for October at this point because I dont know that I would have a) gotten the vacation days approved or b) gotten paid for them.

Good luck to you!

i think you will have a very very hard time taking any time off during the school year. almost all districts do not allow that.

I know my principal would laugh at that!! LOL... As a first year teacher, I would try to plan the HM for Christmas vacation (I know that's a few months after the wedding, but unless you want to use a couple of sick/personal days at the start of your first year, that looks like your best option). A friend of mine (a teacher who was already tenured) got married in November & they were only able to go away for 5 days (over T-giving weekend) because most districts are so strict about giving extra time off.
