This sounds like such a great idea. I wonder how it works.

Personally and I have to be honest- I always thought it was a bit out of line to do this. I mean, yes- honeymoons are expensive but to older relatives who see this as a registry may think it's asking a bit too much. If you have honeymoon items that are needed, I would throw that in your overall registry- like luggage and stuff because that people buy.

I respect your opinion but i dont agree. If they want to buy traditional items I will have a regular registry of course. We dont really need anymore pots and pans so I don;t know why it would be out of line to ask

I guess it depends on the families...my family isnt very traditional so i dont think they would be put off by this

See, I am thinking of my family who are VERY traditional Italians/Cubans and I know if I did this, it would be a gossip fest with 'OMG, I can't believe the nerve!' But, if your family isn't like that- then by all means- do it! I know you and your FH already live together so maybe in your situation, it would make sense to do this because you already have all the things you need.

I think its a good thing. Most guests dont mind anymore as its becoming more and more common. My problem with it is that most charge you anywhere from 5%-7%. SO they are taking money that guests are spending on you.... so I decided against it. Instead I am doing a Marriott registry. Basically its just like those (but does not include airfare) and there are no service fees. In the end up get a gift card with all the money on it and can use it world wide. So even if we decide not to choose the Marriott hotel for our HM. Then we are going to use it to go celebrate our 1 year anniversary somewhere exotic.... since we will be saving up for a house and won't have any $$$ to go celebrate our 1 year

Re: Honeymoon Registry.

i love this idea! i was going to do it and still might depending if my plan to use a familys time share pans out. I would definanlty do a regular one as well for more traditional guests. but especially for friends its super unique and cute plus helps us out a ton which is part of the point in all these gifts in the first place.

as far as the actual registries. I am just skeptical and not so trusting (hell, i live in Boston..hehe J/K!!) but some of the websites that do this i just personally wouldnt trust. I would go with an agent or some hotels/ resorts do them as well like i saw it on the Marriotts website and maybe sandels? now i dont remember but thats what id do!

I think its a great idea especially for couples who already live together and have just about everything they need (like FH and I). I am having trouble picking out things for our registry since i have mostly everything already BUT my family is super traditional and half of them dont even use the Internet! It just wouldn't work well for us.

Yeah I have the some problem picking out things for my registry since we already live together.

My family is also traditional and not very good with the internet. One of my cousins had a honeymoon registry and everyone thought it was super odd/scandalous and nobody bought anything on it.

I like the idea though cause I don't need more towels or glasses, etc. What I was going to do was either put it on my website or just tell my friends directly. That way the people our own age know about it and will buy that stuff instead of trying to figure out place settings and such.

i did this site....i wasnt big on it at first, but lots of friends want to purchase a little something and then give money b/c their all newly married and know how bad you need money both before the wedding and for the honeymoon after!

I know someone who did this and I thought it was a great idea!! They already lived together and they didnt need a new 'blender' and stuff so they added the website of where they were honeymooning and the num to call the place....to the invitations. They said on the card that since they already have a house full of things, they thought it would be nice and fun to put their honeymoon on it. They were staying at an all inclusive and people got them some of the activities and excursions they went on, matching bathingsuites they both wanted....etc. - Just some ideas...

I thought it was a great idea until I signed up for it.

I thought that people actually bought you the excursions, etc., but all they really do is put money into an account sponsored by the registry for you, so to me it seemed like a sneaky way to ask for cash, even though that's NOT what I would have used it for!!! But, in the end, you just get the cash . . . . not the little 'extra' you indicated. I don't want guests to think I'm not going to use it for that. Most guests will give money anyhow, so it's the same thing, but the Honeymoon Registry was like asking for specific amounts of CASH, which bothered me, so I cancelled before signing up for anything.

It's a great idea in theory, but it's not really what it seems . . . . it's just an account.

Haha. Just to find out if I was 'off,' I asked the FH and my Mom. Both of them vetoed it immediately when I told them that your gift is not the actual 'thing.'

I'm not sure they are all the same though!! For instance, if a cruise line has it for excursions, and I think Disney might also, you MIGHT be able to buy the actual thing, but the few sites I visited were cash. I really can't say that ALL of the sites are like that, but even the cruise one I went to was . . . . .
