Honeymoon vs. video

Honeymoon vs. video

We chose our dream hall, and my dream dress, and my dream dj, and my dream flowers..lol.. but now, our money issue is a huge NIGHTMARE!!!

anyway, we are debating on either a honeymoon or a video.. we will go on the honeymoon just not right away.. but I feel like we should have a video, that last forever.. but a honeymoon would be so beautiful, and relaxing.. hmm.. just wanted your opinions

Re: Honeymoon vs. video

I think you should do both. If you do your research I think you can find both at reasonable rates.

I agree..you should try to do both...your honeymoon could be 3 nights 4 days somewhere..just so you have something.....

The cheapest I've found for video is $1400 and for a honeymoon, for both of us is $3000.. it's fine if we weren't already spending $30,000 on the other stuff.. uggh.. i hate budgeting

i voted for the honeymoon - although maybe you could get a film schoool student to tape it, or even have a friend tape the ceremony.

Re: Honeymoon vs. video

you can get unedited videos for unde r$1000 dollars. did you try the vendor board? I know when my FH and myself were looking this lady FMed me with info about her video company in Levittown that was real cheap. And you can get great vacation deals like a cruise leaving from NYC for a couple of nights for short money.

Get your video unedited. Try Craig Seeman, Third Planet video, on my budget vendors list - he's $300 unedited and $600 editied. Also try craigslist.org.

I really do think you need both. You can also get an inexpensive vacation if you use Priceline's vacation product. You pick your hotels, it's just your flight times that are up in the air. And they tell you the price right there.

Anyway, here's my page:

Thanks girls.. That's my problem, i want an edited video, not just a videotape of the wedding ya know..

You took the words right out of my mouth, nsgraham. Check her website, she has great contacts. You can easily find a videographer under $1,000. As for your honeymoon I would suggest shopping for timeshare resells. I know when my father is close to losing a week from not using them, he often sells them. Check your local newspaper. Also, try to stay close by so airfare is low.

Re: Honeymoon vs. video

You should contact some film schools in the area or ask around for an inexpensive videographer. My girlfriend just went to the yellow pages 3 weeks before her wedding and found someone...when they don't say 'wedding' in front of their names they are usually much less expensive.

As for the honeymoon, drive somewhere, get hooked up with a timeshare offer where they bring you down for the weekend at a discounted rate. You'll have to spend a couple of hours in a haggling debate, but your rooms will be drastically cut for a few days. I think they even have cruises too.

Go to Martha's Vineyard and take the ferry.
Drive up to the Castkills, Poconos (I;ve always loved those room ad's with the big champagne glass). Hop a flight to California- San Fran is going for $300 round trip from New York. No matter what, DO BOTH!

Re: Honeymoon vs. video

i agree i would either find a reasonable video company or i would take my honeymoon later...we are not going on a honeymoon until the summer and if FH gets a new job it wont be for a nother year! Its not so bad... maybe take a smalll honeymoon or just a getaway
we are goin to go to vegas the weekend after our wedding

Nice, Vegas! Now that is a good place for a post-wedding weekend getaway!

I vote for the Honeymoon, because you can alway find a friend to shoot the video.

You also have almost a year to save for both!

And you can get an edited video for $1K - we are.

Good luck. I hope that you'll end up being able to do both.

Re: Honeymoon vs. video

Personally I would do both.. cause I am.
Video is really important to me.. more so than the photos. We weren't sure we'd afford a honeymoon so we were gonna put it off until Spring (after tax refund) But we got a great deal for Disney 8days/9nights for $2300 so we went for it (tax included). I wonder if we'll have any money WHILE we're there!!!

Good Luck

if you can only do one for now i would do video i think its very important and you will be able to look back on your day for years to come. you can always go on a smaller scale honeymoon for now and then when you have the money i would go on a bigger one.

I say Honeymoon, I think I will watch my video a few times and then wish I had taken the money to our honeymoon

If you wait till the last minute (like only 3 months before the wedding) you get a really good deal on a 7 day cruise. I did this last year and I got $299 each for a 7 day cruise of the southern carribean.

hmmm, as soon as i read your dilemna I was going to suggest getting an unedited video. then i read that you don't want that. you can always get it unedited and get it edited when you have the $$$, no? just a thought
