honeymoon - where is the world??

honeymoon - where is the world??

FH & I have been talking about the honeymoon a lot recently. i would love to go to Hawaii. FH doesn't really care where we go but he is responsible for paying. he looked up prices the other day & said its expensive. i understand that its expensive but since we first started dating (9 years ago) we have never gone on a big vacation. we have gone to my parents upstate, his aunts house upstate, & once we went to Boston. i think splurging on Hawaii for our honeymoon is perfectly fine. but i am open to suggestions.

so, where are other honeymoon destinations???

I am in the works on booking my honeymoon with Travel Tom. We are going to Hawaii and it is expensive but like you said, we don't go away much so FH has agreed to spurlge.

Travel Tom mentioned Costa Rica, St. Lucia and Jamaica are some other hot honeymoon spots.

Have you ever looked up traveling to hawaii through travelzoo its back by a real travelling agency that will beat any price that is cheaper then there prices. I heard it through a friend who swears by it.

FH and I are discussing Australia. We know it's expensive, but we haven't been on a real vacation since 2007 and I doubt we're going on one this year too (with the wedding planning and all). We also figure, when else will we ever be able to take off enough time from work to take a vacation like that other than our honeymoon. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I think we're going to jump on it.

i agree that it is ur honeymoon so you should do it right....but you also dont wanna go into debt for it. If you can swing hawaii i say def go for it!

if not... i would look into Aruba, Mexico, Costa Rica, a cruise, etc.

look into the hawaiian cruise, its cheaper than traveling from island to island....i think its through norweigian cruise lines.

Like my FMIL said, 'It's your honeymoon! You only do it once (hopefully). So, why not go all out! So, what if it is expensive. In the end, it is only money.' Go for it!

i heard hawaii is expensive.. unless u do it on a cruise. friends of mine said it was the only way they could afford it.

tips for hm.. try not to go for the whole 'honeymoon suite' and the packages that have anything to do with honeymoons.

fh and i always say this.. we can spend 4k on 1 vacation and get a big room/suite.. or we can spend a fraction..stay in a reg poor persons room and go on a few vacations...

its really what u want to do.

i think cruising is the best way to travel..cuz u go to several diff locations. u can prob travel to europe ,go to like3 diff countries for a fraction of a hawaiian vacation.

my FH wants to move to Australia. you can buy lots of land for very cheap. i am trying to convience him that this is a bad idea. i hope you enjoy it if you go but if i tell him we are going there for our honeymoon we will never come back. lol

like i said above, FH is afraid of water at night, so a cruise is out. to be honest we have 9 years of no vacations so i don't really see what he is complaining about. i also see it as within a year after the wedding we will have a kid & really wont be able to travel so i think this is going to be our big vacation.

the hm is the best part!!!! id rather skimp a little on the wedding and go on an awesome hm!!! we're going to hawaii but we were deciding between Aruba, St. Lucia, and French Polynesia

Mexico riviera maya and puerto Vallarta which ie heard awesome things about are both great as well!!! we've been there so we wanted to go somewhere new but it was very beautiful!!

Re: honeymoon - where is the world??

ok so no cruises lol..

pick a place where u want to go..or a few places... and MONITOR prices to the bawls... meaning airfare... hotels

prices go up and down like crazyyyy.. u just have to constantly sit by the comp and refresh every couple of minutes.. then u will get an idea of when prices go up and down for that particular fare.. so u will then be familiar with prices and ull knwo what is a good deal and whats not.

hope this makes sense?

FMIL said St. Lucia. but i think thats because she doesn't want FH spending so much money on Hawaii. lol.

Re: honeymoon - where is the world??

I told FH lets not go to crazy with this.
Only because we have been on some amazing vacations together.

Honeymoon - Vacation same thing to me.

Its time alone at a wonderful place with the person you love.

sounds like a good idea. i already checked on-line & most places aren't booking for April 2010 yet so we have time. i also just remembered that my two friends both went to Hawaii so i am going to ask what they did. thanks for the advice.

Re: honeymoon - where is the world??

I think this is the one trip in your life that you should totally splurge on. Hawaii is amazing and if that's where you want to go...I would push for it. My sister went for around $10k 2 years ago...which I dont think is insane for a honeymoon. I think she stayed at the Hilton in Maui and Oahu. You could also look into condos. When I went to my friend;s wedding last year...she found us all an amazing condo deal...$150 a night or beachfront rooms!

Re: honeymoon - where is the world??

Barb's advice about rooms is really good....I was told that oceanfront rooms are about $200 more than garden view rooms. So you can save alot there. Plus, other than late evenings, I don't intend on being in the room that much, I want to go explore and lay on the beach.

FYI - About Hawaii, I've been told by many people, average price is $8-$10k....so its a lot but it all depends on what your willing to spend. And that price is for the typical 10nights, 3 islands....you can do it cheaper for 2 islands and less nights but again that's all up to you.

Re: honeymoon - where is the world??

I would tend to think splurge on the Honeymoon - after all, you should only be doing it once!! I know the airfare can be a bit steep for HI - but definitely do your research regarding both airfare/hotels and you should be able to come up with some deals. If you didn't want to travel that far - I would definitely check out some of the islands in the caribbean and also Mexico - I know there are some great deals down there!

FH and I are definitely splurging on the HM - we are going to French polynesia and Bora Bora - we figured that we will only have one honeymoon - so why not take advantage of it and go all out?
