So, I am pretty sure i know the answer to this but i think i need the pushing. I am TERRIFIED of flying. I NEVER want to enter a plane ever again. I don't care if i never see the world etc. I experienced bad turbulence a few years and i let it ruin some pretty amazing things. For instance, my job wanted to send me to Germany for a week and i declined. I have a friend who lived in Ireland and i declined going there, TWICE. Yikes, so i am starting to realize how this fear can be a problem because i want nothing more then to go away for our Honeymoon @ a sandals resort. But, i am SO scared to fly. I don't even know if i would be able to handle getting to the airport. When i see planes in the sky it freaks me out. I know i need to go and talk to a doctor and def. get some meds. Does anyone else take meds and have the same fear as me? did the meds work? I am so scared that we are going to spend to much money on a honeymoon and when the times comes i am going to be freaked out and not be able to get on a plane. ahhhhhhh >

I used to be a very very anxious flyer. I got got xanax for a flight to europe that was on 9/11/11 because i was so nervous and freaked out. It definitely helped relax me and calm me down. To be honest, the only thing that has helped me become a calm happy flyer has been practice! The more you fly, i think the easier it become. I also started to feel better when a friend of mine became a flight attendant. Thinking about how often she's in the air and safely on the ground makes me feel a bit more at ease. I know it's easier said than done but you gotta get on that plane and have your dream honeymoon, girl!!

I'm a very nervous flyer as well. I cried the whole way home from a trip because I had a double ear infection and strep throat, so that was part of it. Also the guy in front of me was reading a book in a language I didn't recognize, kept talking on his cell phone even when the flight attendant told him to stop, and then he asked me for a Pen.
IDK if you have seen the movie 'Red Eye' with Rachel McAdams but you can do a lot of damage with a pen!! My husband thought I was ridiculous but I was petrified.
what helps me is a drink before the flight (or during!). Also bring stuff to distract you, movies, books, etc. Or just take a sleeping pill!

I am also a VERY nervous flyer (I didn't fly until I was 23, my only flight, and so much time has passed since then that now I'm afraid again, even though it wasn't so bad and I kind of enjoyed it). But a flight to the Bahamas or Antigua or somewhere around there isn't too long. I said an entire rosary on my flight to Florida and back, figuring if I made it through the entire thing without anything bad happening, then we were fine, LOL.
I TOTALLY understand your fears because I have the same ones (though seeing planes in the air from far away is kind of serene to me, and I can't explain why). But think how you'd feel knowing the date you were supposed to leave for your honeymoon passed and there were NO reports of crashes that day. It really is so rare compared to all the commercial flights that go out every single day.

I totally understand your fear - I am the exact same way. I used to fly all the time - and by myself! My old roommate in college lives in Syracuse and I'd fly there to visit her on a Friday and fly home Sunday. I had my first panic attack on a flight to Boston in Feb. of 2011 (a 27 minute flight!!!) and never wanted to fly again. The worst part was that I booked that for FH's 30th bc he had never flown before and I kept telling him it was no big deal - and then I ended up being the one to freak out
We booked a trip to Hawaii and the closer we got to actually going, the more I was freaking out about getting on the plane. We went on the direct flight from JFK to Hon. and I am not kidding when I tell you that I tracked EVERY flight from the start of that route in June until we went in August because I was crazy I went to my doctor and he gave me the generic of xanax and it really really helped me. I used to get so mad because I would talk to people about it and they would say things like oh yeah I'm scared of flying too but it's not that bad. I felt like saying no, I'm not scared, I'M TERRIFIED. But the meds REALLY help to relax you! I probably shouldn't have drank on the plane along with it, thinking back it was a pretty stupid decision, but they helped me make it through the 10 hour flight and although I'm still a little nervous, I'm confident that I'll be fine going on our HM as long as I have those and FH to keep me calm.

There's a website that I can't recall but it was made by a pilot who answers questions from people. He says the chances of a plane falling from the sky due to turbulence won't happen. I hope that fact helps calm your fears!
My mom suffers from a severe flying fear so I can sympathize with you a bit - we had a short 3 hour flight to Puerto Rico last spring and she was a wreck! It was the saddest sight
Someone recommended to her to take a sedative. It worked for the person who suggested it. Might be something to look into!

My only advice would be to fly somewhere else before your honeymoon. You don't want to wait until your honeymoon and find out you aren't ready to fly.

I am afraid to fly. I go to my dr to get meds. He prescribes klonopin (sp). It's an anti-anxiety medication. I get enough for the flight going and coming back and since I hate elevators I use it for that too! It doesn't knock you out. Takes the edge off. And I fly by myself. Good luck.

I'm not very fond of flying and I also have problems with anxiety. We went to Italy for our Honeymoon and I really wasn't even excited to go because I was very nervous about the flight. My mom gave me some valium and I had a couple drinks before the flight. Of course once I was in the air I felt a little bit nervous, but I just tried to cope with it. You just have to tell yourself that the chances of the plane crashing are so slim and that you're fear is completely irrational. Try to get over your fear. You will regret if you don't take this trip. Sometimes we have to suck it up and conquer our biggest fears. Good luck!
