HONEYMOONING IN GREECE?

Is anyone planning to honeymoon in Greece? We're planning on going to Sardenia (Italian Isle west of the boot tip), but I would love to hit a Greek Isle for a little bit also. I was told by a native that Paros was good for couples. Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

I am but we will be on a cruise that stops at several greek islands. When is your wedding? I am going in September so I can fill you in when I'm back but that might be too late for you.

RE: HONEYMOONING IN GREECE?

I went to Greece Sept, 1997. I`ve heard the summers are really crowded, but it was less crowded in Sept. Santorini was very nice - it would be a great honeymoon spot. The problem is, it may be hard to get to, depending on where else you go. We took a ferry from Athens, which was 10 hrs to Santorini. Mykonos is a little closer to Athens. You could also look into flying to the island - I`m not sure how expensive that is.

HONEYMOONING IN GREECE?

Hi Karen, I'm getting married in August and am looking to book my honeymoon in the Greek Isles... we're set on definitely going to Santorini and then possibly Rhodes, and Mykonos. Do you have any suggestions or advice? What hotel in Santorini did you stay at? We're trying to find a good travel agent that has good experiencea and can advise us where we'd want to go first etc. (we're looking for more of a quiet, romantic vibe rather than club-hopping). Thanks!

HONEYMOONING IN GREECE?

I stayed at Atlantis Villas on Santorini. It was in the quiter part of town which I suggest you stay in. It was definitely one of the nicer ones on the Island. There seemed to be another one just above Atlantis Villas that was just as nice if not better. A travel agent should be able to help you. I booked everything myself directly.

HONEYMOONING IN GREECE? - Karen - long

We enjoyed Santorini. We stayed there for 8 nights which I think was a bit much. We did a day trip to Ios by boat. Once on Ios we rented a car and went on some crazy, scary road to the other side of the island. Once there we found the greatest beach. At first we were the only ones but then a few other couples showed up but not many. The beach is so hard to get to that it is pretty secluded. On Santorini you should definitely go to a restaurant named 'Old Mines'. They have great food and the best sunsets. I think you should try to go to at least one more island if not two.

Thanks Karen for the info! We were thinking Santorini, Mykonos, and Rhodes? I'm not sure about it yet. Was it insanely hot? Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions. P.S> Do u have any websites you can recommend as you said you booked it all yourself? Thanks for helping a fellow bride. :)

Here are some of the sites I used: http://www.greektravel.com/home.html fodors.com concierge.com I used the discussion sections of fodor's and concierge. I also looked at the hotels they recommended. I went to Santorini the last two weeks in August. The weather was great. It was definitely hot but not unbearable. If you have any other questions let me know. Also we stayed one night in Athens. For us that was more than enough.

Thanks so much Karen. My FI has already been to Athens and really didn't like it. He doesn't even want to stay there 1 day but I explained we probably have to since we're flying in that day. Is it bad over there? If you have any warnings or particular suggestions, I'd truly appreciate them. :) Linda

Athens wasn't that bad. It was just a little crowded and noisy. I was flying to Santorini from England and there were no direct flights. It worked out best for us to fly to Athens, stay overnight and then fly to Santorini. Enjoy yourself.
