Honeymoons

Original post by HappyBee

Has anyone thought about their honeymoon yet? We talk about it but haven't decided on anything yet. I guess it depends on our finances a bit closer to the day. Ideally, we would love to go to Tahiti and stay in an overwater bungalow. Where are you going/staying?

Was just looking at the Maldives....would love to go there!

This was our first choice too when we first started to look! But I think we are going to rent a private catamaran to take us through the British Virgin Islands!

We're going to the Greek Islands! So excited, still deciding on whether to do a cruise or just hop around another way. I thought it wasn't in the budget but, FH actually said tonight it's DEFINITELY happening.

We are doing Sandals in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. We have a private villa, our own personal butler and a private pool!!! We booked through a travel agent, Empress Travel, who I would HIGHLY recommend. A lot of people think that travel agents cost more but it isn't true. They make their money through the airlines and resorts, not the customer. Just go in there with your budget and they will show you all of your best options. Ask for Lorraine, she is awesome!

We stayed at the Riu in Ocho Rios, Jamaica...It was really nice! Our friends stayed at Sunset at the Palms in Negril for their honeymoon and rave about it.

Europe sounds great as well...your plans sound amazing!!

OMG we stayed there too. Totally worth every penny. They treated us like we were the only guests staying there! Everyone knew our name by the second night, and the food was OUTSTANDING, especially for a hotel.

Oh, and in response to the original question, we'd love to go to Tahiti too, but I don't think it's in the cards. So I guess we'll settle for Hawaii or Costa Rica. LOL

I'd love to go to Europe, but I think for our honeymoon, we want to go somewhere that we can lay on the beach.

My only request about the honeymoon (that's what I put FH in charge of) is that it be somewhere that we otherwise wouldn't consider, due to distance away, cost, or just the fact that we wouldn't choose it for any old vacation.

A friend of mine went there on her honeymoon in January. She had the best time. But the travel agent forgot to change the times on their return flight, and they missed it because of the time changes. They got stuck in Qatar for 2 days. Which I don't feel too bad for them about, because they got an extra 2 days to honeymoon, on the travel agency's dime!!

That's what our choices were! We were considering Mexico, Eastern Europe, or Egypt. We were looking at Riviera Maya at first before we started looking at Europe. We travel at least 3 times a year, and we've seen the entire Caribbean and Mexico, so we've had our fill of beaches. We were like let's do something we'll probably never do again. Any time we go to Europe, we go to Portugal, so I'm probably not going to get anywhere near France again. So many places in Europe are on my bucket list, & the cruise will cross off all of Italy & some of Spain. I crossed off Egypt for safety reasons, but it would've been the same cost to go to Egypt for a week or Riviera Maya for a week for anyone who's considering! (Travel-wise, didn't see any all-inclusives in Egypt, haha)

That's us too!! Ooh yea the cruise will def cross off many places and that's one of the reasons we are considering it. We have been to almost every island in the caribbean and only been to Los Cabos, Cancun, Tulum, Cozumel and Playa del Carmen in Mexico, and although they are beautiful, we want to do something we wouldn't do often. Riviera Maya (which is the coast from Cancun to Tulum) is beautiful and not too expensive pending where you stay. LOL Egypt is def on my bucket list also, but I agree with the safety reasons LOL

we're now thinking of flying to San Juan, PR and taking a 7 day cruise to St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Kitts, St. Marteen, St. Lucia then when we get back to PR staying a few extras nights. if we don't do that we will probably do barbados or some super Caribbean island for 10 days.

We did that cruise in October 2011. It was awesome! I had been to san Juan, st Thomas, and st maarten before and love all three places. I was very underwhelmed with Barbados, but loved st Kitts and st Lucia.

We were going to book here! We ended up booking at Sandals La Toc in St. Lucia, but she said we have the option to switch out to other resorts up until 3 months before the trip. The new resort in Grenada looks amazing, but I was worried that there would still be lots of construction when we would be going. Is the Sandals in Ocho Rios the newest one in Jamaica?

We booked the brand new Secrets resort in Cabo (opening December of this year) for our honeymoon a couple of weeks ago! We can't wait! We're probably going to take extra days and spend some time in San Francisco too since we've both always wanted to go there.
