Re: Honoring the deceased?

When I get married my dad will only be deceased for 2 years, inside of my church programs I am going to have a poem specifically dedicated to him. During the ceremony, our Deacon is going to mention him by name and then a general for everyone else who is deceased. Also, at the church the seat and pew where my dad would have sat I am going to lay a red rose to represent him. At the Reception, after FH and I dance our first dance together I am going to have the band invite everyone up and dance to the song that I had picked out for the father/daughter dance.

I know it sounds like a lot and I am being selfish and making it all about my dad but his passing was extremely unexpected, even the doctors said he was going to make a 99.8 % recovery from a minor 'warning' stroke. And I am a daddy's girl to the 'T.' And I am still dealing with the fact that I didn't say good-bye. My mom, dad and I went out during the day. After my dad went to lay down in his bedroom with either the door shut or I stuck my head in and he was in the bathroom and I left the house at about 4pm and when I returned at 11:15 pm. my mom and I found him in their bedroom. ...gone.

I'm really sorry to hear about your awful experience...I can't even begin to imagine all of the pain and sadness you are feeling...I think your ceremony is going to be a perfect way to remember him.....

My deepest sympathy to you and your family

Re: Honoring the deceased?

Thanks girls I really appreciate it, this has been an extremely difficult aspect of my life. I am working hard everyday to come to terms and just accept what happened so I can live the life my dad wanted for me.

I don't think you are doing anything that isn't expected of someone who lost someone they loved very deeply!

Re: Honoring the deceased?

I am going to have a table set up with their pictures on it.. and we might have everyone donate money that would go to the cancer society or something like that!

I am having programs with their names in it, 2 bouquet charms with my dad and uncles pics in them. Also having a a table with a memory candle and pictures all around. My card box is also in memory of my daddy, a mail box since he was a mailman.

Re: Honoring the deceased?

I'm having a memorial candle for FH's Mom
All will be mentioned (gparents and FH Mom) in Prayer of the Faithful

At my church you can make donations for altar flowers, and communion and it will be in there names.

We're doing a donation for a favor
Actually - its a project - building a garden in his Mom's name at her cemetary in Ireland.

We are going to have a candle in memorium of those lost on a table with pictures. We also plan on having the grandparents mentioned at the ceremony.

My heart truly goes out to those of you who have lost a parent and are feeling more pain amidst your time of happines. A friend of mine lost his father very recently and is having trouble knowing his father won't be there on the day he gets married. Its times like that (at your wedding) when they are the most near in everyones hearts and I feel that anyway you chose to remember them is appropriate.

Re: Honoring the deceased?

we're honoring both our fathers. we are doing donation favors with 'in loving memory' tags on flowers at each placesetting. we're also arranging a special display of framed pictures and 2 large burning candles. @ the ceremony, i'm going to ask my brother to read a poem in their honor.
