(For those of you who caught the '60 Minutes' episode on this amazing plant!!) ...
I started taking Hoodia (Vinny thinks I'm crazy) but hey- we all know that I am... Anywho, it works really well!! I am happy with my size, I know I'm a thin girl and all but I just want to be like extra thin for my wedding... I know that sounds wrong and all but I'm strange- I need to feel ultra thin to feel good about myself.
In any event, you take two of these vitamins a day (they are a plant condensed into a pill) and they are 100% natural and BYE BYE appetite. This helps me throughout the day so that I'm not STARVING and then I tend to 'over eat'. So, that is really what I'm safe-guarding against. I just eat so much b/c I allow myself, with my busy schedule, to become STARVING.
I still go to the gym like 3 times a week and do all of that but this will help curb that 'FEED ME' feeling I get so much!! LOL...
Just thought I would let you girls know-- it works fabulously!!!

I completely understand the way you feel! I am the same way! BUT, I have to say, what concerns me about your post is your doctor!!!!!! It seems a bit absurd to call you overweight (judging of course by pics only, so I could be off) and tell you it is injuring your knees as a result. JMO...not meant to upset you or anyone else.
I agree, i can't believe your doctor said that. I have knee problems too and have for years, i have two torn ligaments. Unfortunately its the little things we do everyday that make it worst, not weight. My doctor has told me about wearing heels, dancing too much, walking too much, this will all effect it.
Most women are down on themselves about how they look, no matter what someone says to me, i will have my own view of myself.
Also, don't try to lose weight quickly this many months before the wedding...What happens when you don't eat alot is that your stomach shrinks, so when you do go back to eating normally and even if its eating well just eating more than your body has been used to, you will gain twice as much weight back. Thats why most people who lose weight will gain back twice as much weight after they finish a strict diet. The problem also is that when you gain and lose and gain and lose, you lose muscle and gain more fat and that is when you get more flab...I have gone up and down ALOT, so even when i get a little bit of a stomach its all flab, unlike many girls I'll see who can have a small gut but it doesn't look as bad because its not all flabby.
There are foods out there that are healthy but fill you up and will hold you off until your next meal...Each food has a different effect on your body...If you do alot of research on this you can find out what it can do for you. There are some foods that break down fat and many other things.
Even if this works the problem is that your body is not getting the nutrients it needs and that can effect you later on.

Re: HOODIA...
Thank Dani I was thinking of trying it and now you've convinced me. I understand all the health concerns that everyone is posting about. But I know what its like to need an bit of extra help. I got 5 weeks to go and since jan to now all i've lost is 5lbs. I need to lose at least 10 more from here to March 24th. So if I can cut out the need to eat some cookies or some other unhealthy crap during the day my hopefully I will get there. Thanks again.

I'm just looking to lose like 10 pounds and really TONE for the wedding so that I look like borderline anorexic LOL
that's kind of a not cool comment to make, especially when some of us could know people who have or personally have eating disorders. it's not really that funny.

Question - where did you buy it? Is it any specific name brand? The ones I have seen are hoodia WITH something else, never just hoodia alone. I need to lose 20-30 lbs so that my wedding gown FITS and I'm struggling with my second round of Weight Watchers.
I actually got it from my MIL's nutritionist... But she told me it is sold in normal stores like The Vitamin Shop or GNC. I will ask her more specifically though and post...
Good luck with the weight loss!!!!
This does really help to curb the 'over eating' which is my downfall lol
I know for sure it is not Hoodia with something else- this is 100% Hoodia. I will get the specific brand name for you... It is more expensive this way that is why you will find cheaper variations mixed with something else but it is worth the $$ to me b/c I don't want anything but natural... And you can check it out on your own by just reading the bottles in the store-- under ingredients it should just say 'hoodia' and that's it.
I definately hear you on the poor choices and 'overdoing it.' I am exactly the same way.
As far as health concerns, In my opinion~ just listen to and trust your body. You will know if something doesn't feel right and you are intelligent and intuitive enough to stop any supplements if they are messing with you!
I have a lot of friends, including myself, who have tried various over the counter supplements etc. and we have found that some things 'agree' with us and some don't~ trust your body and you should be ok *again, just my personal opinion and experience*
Good luck with that appetite girl!!!!

Dani just be careful
I think that you are beauitful just the way you are, but I do understand that this is something that you want to do for yourself.
If you change your mind, you could always try eating differently and continue going to the gym. You have plenty of time before the wedding to loose the weight you would like to loose. I'm just worried about you and am a bit concerened about any diet pill. I know you are cautious and I know that you would never take anything that would harm yourself. Hope it works for you. .

Just because it says that its all natural doesnt mean it is....because its not approved by the FDA they can put on the ingredient label whatever they want b/c no body is checking it if theyre making false claims about the ingrdients contained in it...
this particular bottle said that it was approved by the FDA-- I went with the one that they did the story on 60 minutes about.
i do know there are a ton of other 'varities' that are not legit-- just people making them to try and make money-- but I went with the one that they did the story on and it says all that crap about the FDA on it...
Thanks for the advice though, I appreciate it.
I'm looking to lose like 10 pounds-- like you mentioned your friend did-- so we'll see!
i am writing this post not at all as criticism of Danis choice. we all make choices about things and shes free to make hers without our scrunity. my post is because if this stuff really does what its supposed to than i really want it! but i want it pure so i did some reserach to see what is really out there. this post is what i discovered through wayyy too much reading.. and let me pre-disclaimer this post by saying that everything i read was here on the internet so its as usual subject to what you want to beleive. i tried to use sites that are credible - but as always with the internet - you just NEVER know - so read at your own discretion!!
from 60 minutes and from other articles ive read, the only 'recommended' pill seems to be the x32 trimspa product. however the FDA has claimed that Trimspa has not demonstrated that claims for their products are scientifically supportable. not only that, but x32 and any other product stating that it contains Hoodie, actually contains only a trace amount of the P57 supposed appetite suppressent active ingredient - check out this article In reference to that actual contents of X32 its hard to believe it contains ANY actual active ingredients: 'Hoodia has not been allowed as an ingredient in the United States,' she says. 'It is not technically legal to import it as a dietary supplement. There was some company that was working with Anna Nicole Smith that was trying to market hoodia and they got slapped by the FDA.' Pam Wadler, a spokesperson for JEC Nutrition, New Jersey-based distributor of 'H57 Hoodia,' said, 'H57 has its name because it is an easy way for the consumer to remember that our product is the real South African hoodia gordonii.' She would not, however, say whether the product contains P57.
Other than an only slightly mentioned heart issue that could be a side effect - the only apparant known side effect of Hoodia is that it is apparantly easily digestible by the liver which can lead to liver issues see this blurb
SO to finalize my post I just want to know - what is this magical pure Hoodie plant pill that you have??? Because if it is truly that (which I am sorry but i find hard to beleive) I most definitely want in!

aww i didn't mean to offend you
i guess you gotta know me- i over exaggerate and i'm very animated so when i say things- i tend to go over the top- i did not mean that in a literal context... although i do like to look very fit and trim- ESP in pics and stuff... but that's just me.
sorry again i'm honestly not deeply feeling that- again, just how i speak sometimes-- just so you know that it's not serious.

Hmm, welcome to the boards?
That was kind of odd...
Well, in any event... Like I posted in the previous post- I looked at the bottle and there is no 'name brand' just the name of the plant and the ingredients- and again, I got it from my MIL's nutritionist so I can't tell you a whole lot. I'm sorry, I know I'm no help here... I figured when I got home that the bottle would have a brand name but no... Either way, if you want to try it- why don't you just go to the Vitamin Shop and ask them for the 100% natural Hoodia.
Give it a try and see what happens- if it doesn't work out for you then at least you know for sure.
It's a personal preference whether to take it or not-- and it's the same personal opinion on whether or not it is healthy...
It's really up to you (and everyone else as individuals).
I, so far, have had a good experience.
If I start growing bionic limbs- I'll update the post

i kind of have to agree with this i mean you seem to be a really nice and pretty intelligent person and to compare being toned to being anorexic is just absurd, whether that's an extreme exaggeration or not...i think you should discuss this with your doctor who thinks you need to lose weight and see what he suggests and also maybe keep your own body image in check, because its very easy for people with obsessive/crtitical personalities to develop eating disorders especially when they are under allot of stress.
as for managing to eat healthy during the day i learned a good trick from my dad and one of the trainers at the gym....instead of watching TV or sitting on the computer for an hour before you go to bed prepare your lunch for the next day. figure how many meals you will eat while your at work....in my case its lunch and dinner so make those plates and divided them into 4 smaller portions eat them every two hours, make sure what you're eating is balanced and DRINK plenty of water cut down on caffeine and sugar then your cravings will subside as well....my mom and dad do this on the regular and stay at their weight never gain and ounce when they walk 1 mile a day they lose weight so if you could manage to do this and work out like you have been im pretty sure you can lose your ten pounds but sept with no problem and no diet pill

It's amazing how this topic sparks so much 'controversy'...i think we all want to look 'amazing'...how we define that varies from one person to the next..some people like a little meat on their bones, others want to look like Mary Kate & Ashley.
i think as women we need to learn to value WHO we are more than how we look...don't get me wrong...i want to be one hot bride too...but i lived a life controlled by food for years...placing my own self-worth solely on the numbers on the scale...at a mere 103lbs i still thought i could stand to lose a few and never truly loved myself....which carried over into dating guys that treated me like crap..lacking self confidence.., etc..looking back at pics i'd kill to have that body i never appreciated, but i wouldn't trade it for the control it took over my entire life...and when i look at myself now...i accept the few bumps and curves here and there because i love who i am as a person, and the accomplishments I've made with my brain, not my body.
When you feel good about who you are on the inside, it will shine thru, regardless of your size, hair color or breast size...so instead of trying to 'fix' your body...work on healing your mind and your inner being. Ok...crazy psycho speech now over

wow that is very well said and so true, great speech
I was just talking about this on the 08 board, i was going through old pics, and some just from a year ago or a few months ago and was saying how i have to stop looking now because i am getting depressed, but you know what you are right. I look at those pics and just see myself thinner, but many of those pics I wasn't happy the way i am now, I was going through things and alot of hurt, stress and drama. I was skinnier but can't say I was happier at all. Infact, it was so much easier to fixate on my diet and work out constantly because I wasn't happy and couldn't control alot of things in my life, and that was easy to control. To try and make ourselves look better to the outside world even when everything is going wrong inside its easier to focus on the outside to put up that front....Guess thats what it was about, I don't feel such a huge need to put up that front anymore, everything is great and i am truly happy now...Thanks you just answered the question i was asking myself, how was i able to stay so motivated then and now its been alot harder.

Re: HOODIA...
But this is all natural- if you look on the ingredients it says 'hoodia plant' and that is IT... with other diet pills they had caffeine and stuff in it- that would speed up your heart...
The 'hoodia' that you can buy here in the US isn't going to help you lose weight. It's just not.
BTW, Caffeine comes from plants too, you know. LIke coffee and tea, for example. 'All natural' means nothing. Everything is derived from something in nature, right? It's not as if it comes from outer space. It's not a term that has any real meaning, except that the public thinks it means something.
I read the article on the 60 Minutes website. It does say that Lesley Stahl ate the hoodia plant and wasn't hungry all day. However, it ALSO says that there ISN'T any hoodia formulation on the market that is made by the patent holder, and none that contains the amount necessary to have results. Yes--60 MInutes says that it works, but they also say that YOU CAN'T BUY THE STUFF THAT WORKS. Don't take the stuff on the market, it's only RIPPING YOU OFF. If it does anything for you, it might actually be because it has things you don't want in it, like caffeine and bitter orange.
But what does that say about all these weight-loss products that claim to have hoodia in it? Trimspa says its X32 pills contain 75 mg of hoodia. The company is pushing its product with an ad campaign featuring Anna Nicole Smith, even though the FDA has notified Trimspa that it hasn’t demonstrated that the product is safe. Some companies have even used the results of Phytopharm’s clinical tests to market their products.'This is just straightforward theft. That’s what it is. People are stealing data, which they haven’t done, they’ve got no proper understanding of, and sticking on the bottle,' says Dixey. 'When we have assayed these materials, they contain between 0.1 and 0.01 percent of the active ingredient claimed. But they use the term hoodia on the bottle, of course, so they -- does nothing at all.'

I went to the store yesterday to buy it but the lady she said she wasn't crazy about ti and didin't really reccommend it to me. She said some people feel a little 'trippy' from it....lol (hmm that might not be such a bad thing) lol but for real thougyh I dunno if I can be trippy around the children in my class. Everyone is different and will probably have different effects, I am still willing to TRY it , if I don't like it I won't use it anymore....I am going back to the store today to get it... Re: HOODIA...
i didn't read this til now
I have several opinions....
a) I don't like the idea of Hoodia. I have a friend that ended up in the hospital with heart palpitations from it.
b) To each her own. I personally wouldn't do it, but I'm not going to get all mad at someone who does.
c) Danielle, you're already a skinny beyotch...you show me where you need to lose weight!
