Hooking up a DVD player using 'S' Video???

Hey,
I have a question regarding hooking up my APex 1100W DVD player to my new Magnavox 20 inch flat screen tv. I believe both the tv and the dvd player have S video on them.

20 inch tv

DVD Player

Anyway, My question is...I have the DVD player and the plug but no other wiring and no manual. I must of thrown them out in the move or I put them in one of the many boxes in my storage room. Can I just connect the DVD player to the tv with the S video cable? And do I need to hook the DVD player to the cable box? That would be a problem since the Cable box is in the other room. I split the cable 3 times. One being the cable modem, 2 being the living room tv, and the third for the bedroom tv.

Also the picture is a little grainy in the bedroom. Do you think that is because the cable is split 3 times?

If the 'S' video cable will do the trick, then is there a certain brand 'S' Video cable that is better than another?

Thanks in advance,
Scott

I don't have an answer for you...but, if my husband were here he would 'hook' you up. We went through this when we were hooking up our DVD player, Cable Box, and PS2 in the bedroom. DH wanted to use S Video...and he was having a bit of difficulty also.

I think he connected the DVD player through the TV's S video cable...your picture may be grainy because of the splitting. But don't take my word for it. Does Apex have a customer service line? Try calling them.

Good Luck...sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I don't know about the customer service line at APEX. I don't like calling the companies up because usually they arent any help. Believe me I know...

Hopefully someone that has electronics knowledge will see this post.

Scott...

Rich says that YES, you can hook the DVD into the TV with the S video cable...should improve quality when watching movies....

Yes, your picture is grainy due to the cable being split three times

No, there are no brands better than any others.

No, the DVD player does not have to get plugged into cable box.
