lol - oh, that's the breeder's wife! I WISH I had that hair, trust me!!

Well, thanks everyone! I love them so much already, but now I'm paranoid that I won't be a good doggie mom! I just read the post about caring for puppies and working... I'm taking a week off when we bring him home, and DH doesn't leave for work until late afternoon. He only works 4 days a week too, Friday he's off. When I get home it's about 6:30, so the longest the pup would be alone would be from 3 - 6:30. Is that terrible?? I feel so guilty already!! I'm hoping that having someone home all the time that first week will kind of help with the getting adjusted and all. I wish I could just NOT WORK and stay home with our dog.... Only a few hours in the cage alone won't turn him into a wall-eating monster, right? I'm probably just being paranoid as usual, but I'd like some other opinions as well :)

no, that's fine! It'll be a lot of work...they get pretty rambunctious!! Bailey kept us laughing when she was a pup! Well...she still does....

but 3 hours in the cage is fine....if you need advice as the time comes, you know where to find me

You'll be the prefect rotti mommi

No way, those hours sound perfect!

I think they should be fine at home for 3 hours. I might be wrong, but I heard that puppies sleep a lot anyway, so that's probably what they'll do when you're gone. Also, they still have each other to keep company.

How old will he be when you get him? The rule of thumb is you take their age in months and add 1, and that's the max number of hours you should keep them in the crate.

okay - I was thinking that we might be mistreating our poor dog or something! :) I just want him to be the happiest dog in the world, and I feel bad that we can't alwaays be with him :) And thanks Shana for the advice! I'll be sending you lots of FM once we bring this tyke home. I'm sure I'll have a trillion Rottie Q's for you once he's all ours!

Did I mention that we're going to visit them tomorrow too? WE ARE!!! We're bringing our digi cam, so I'll post a LOT more pics on saturday afternoon!!!!! I cant wait to meet them!!!!

Re: HOORAY! Just got NEW pics of our Rottie pup!!!!

We had two puppies and we work loooonng hours. Sometimes we're gone for up to 12 hours. As long as you have them crated and have plenty of papers/cleaners around, you'll be okay. The first few months of anything is an adjustment but the rewards are so worth it. Don't let the concept of you not being home deter you from getting a furbaby. Our little ones are well mannered and know the drill at our home. They are spoiled and loved and they learned fast what was right and what was wrong.

Right now I'm having a problem keeping the oldest away from the baby - she thinks it's HER baby - always next to her, always kissing her, etc. It's cute, but a little annoying when I have to keep pushing her away to get to my baby!

He will be just about 2 months old when we bring him home... So that means 3 hours should be okay, according to this calculation!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh so cute!!! I love Rottweilers. Are you taking both?

ETA: 3 hrs in the cage is fine! Plus, you will be his hero! Your DH will put him in the cage and you will be the one to take him out!! I had this with our dog when we first got him - FH leaves later that I do so he was the one who penned him up and I was the one who let him free every day.

FH wasn't thrilled with this arrangement, of course

I would LOVE to have all 7 from this litter :) Alas, we only have the room and budget for one.
