Hoping to be an 09 bride

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Meg and as the topic title states I hope to be an 09 bride. My bf and I have been together for a bit over 2 years now and we've actually talked a lot about getting engaged and marriage. I'm still in school (getting my PhD) and we want to wait to get married until after I am finished (Dec 2008). The FH says we'll be engaged before I finish school so here's to hoping

A little about the bf and I. We actually met through a car club. We both drove MINI Coopers at the time and belonged to a tristate area car club which meets a few times a month. He is originally from NJ and for the first year or so of dating we did the long distance (he lived about 2 hours from LI) dating thing...it ****** only seeing each other on the weekends.
In Nov we moved into an apartment together on LI (he was great enough to move for me since I couldn't, being that I am in school and all) and its been great. He commuted to NJ for the last 8 months for his job and just found a new one on LI a few weeks ago.
We are going on vacation to Hawaii in a few days and I was hoping the proposal would happen there, but with the job change the bf says he needs some time to save money for a ring (what can I say I have expensive taste).
Anyway, thats a little bit about me. Just wanted to say hi since I have been lurking for a while (for some reason I've become wedding crazed in the last few months and already feel like I have most of it planned, hehe).

Thanks for all the good lucks girls. In the back of my mind I know getting proposed to in Hawaii would be awesome, but I am really trying not to get my hopes up because I want to enjoy the vacation and not be utterly disappointed.

So glad to know that I am not the only un-engaged girl lurking on these boards!
Just a word of advice.. dont make your whole vacation about getting engaged. I went to Europe in May and thought he was going to do it then (we have discussed it also). Needless to say, he did not propose and I was slightly disappointed. The only reason I wasnt crushed is that I decided before we left that I was going to enjoy our vacation for what it was. I told myself that he WASNT going to propose, but I would be super excited if he did.
Try to make sure that you dont think of every activity as a potential proposal, becuase you will drive yourself crazy and not enjoy the activites for what they are.

All that being said, GOOD LUCK! I hope you come back a Soon To Be Mrs!!!! You are going to have a GREAT time even if this isnt THE time.

Glad I have another un-engaged person on the boards with me. I totally understand what you are saying and that is why I am trying to not get worked up about it. From what I hear Hawaii is beautiful and I need to take that all in and enjoy it regardless of if we get engaged there or not.

Yeah, that is a good attitude to have. FM (forum mail) me if you want more tips. Our relationships are actually quite similar... we might be able to offer each other some support.

Originally I was hoping to be an '08 bride... but I am trying to be a little more realistic. I think it could actually be possible in '09.

At least you know the ring is comin soon and you've got a great guy no matter what happens. Let us know how your trip to Hawaii turns out, engagement or not.

I guess I might as well come out of hiding too. I've been lurking for months but am not technically engaged yet. I'm expecting the proposal by the end of the year but hoping it will be sooner. I can't wait to be an official '09 bride!
