Hoping to be an 09 bride

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Meg and as the topic title states I hope to be an 09 bride. My bf and I have been together for a bit over 2 years now and we've actually talked a lot about getting engaged and marriage. I'm still in school (getting my PhD) and we want to wait to get married until after I am finished (Dec 2008). The FH says we'll be engaged before I finish school so here's to hoping

A little about the bf and I. We actually met through a car club. We both drove MINI Coopers at the time and belonged to a tristate area car club which meets a few times a month. He is originally from NJ and for the first year or so of dating we did the long distance (he lived about 2 hours from LI) dating thing...it ****** only seeing each other on the weekends.
In Nov we moved into an apartment together on LI (he was great enough to move for me since I couldn't, being that I am in school and all) and its been great. He commuted to NJ for the last 8 months for his job and just found a new one on LI a few weeks ago.
We are going on vacation to Hawaii in a few days and I was hoping the proposal would happen there, but with the job change the bf says he needs some time to save money for a ring (what can I say I have expensive taste).
Anyway, thats a little bit about me. Just wanted to say hi since I have been lurking for a while (for some reason I've become wedding crazed in the last few months and already feel like I have most of it planned, hehe).

I forgot to mention this earlier and didn't know where else to post it.

I knew that my sister knew FH and I were getting engaged in hawaii (mom's got a big mouth). But when I called to tell her she rushed me off the phone saying she was busy and never called me back.

I knew her and my BIL had been trying to conceive their second child and one day when FH and I were at the beach (still on vacation) I said to him 'I wonder if my sis is prego and didn't say anything because she doesn't want to steel my thunder.' He told me to call her, so I did and left a message saying I needed to ask her a question. When she called back I said 'Are you pregnant' and the phone went silent. I said 'You are!' She then told me she hadn't told my parents or anyone yet because she didn't want to rain on my parade. She said she's already been engaged and had her first child and felt her new could wait. It was really sweet, but I went ahead and told her to tell everyone. It's great news!
She's been bugging me about when the wedding will be so she'll have time to loose the baby weight (she's my MOH).
Anyway, thought I'd share. My Mom was like 'ugh this is too much, I am gonna go broke.'

That is such a great story! That was so sweet of your sister to be so thoughtful and not want to steal your spotlight. But of course...you can never have too much good news, right? Congratulations to you and your family! Such an exciting time for everyone!

BTW...my mom said the exact same thing about going broke. I got engaged exactly one week after my brother's wedding...which she paid for!

Hi Ladies, I am also a 'hope to be 09 bride' Whooo and I am soo gald that I am not the only anxious one..HA HA.

My boyfriend and I have been together for about 3.5 years now and we actually met through Match.com ;) We both recently finished both of our Master's Programs and we both recently purchased condos. He recently has said that we should start shopping for rings. I ignored this the first time not to get my hopes up but now, after the second time, the flood gates are open!! I honestly hope that I get engaged sooner, but I think it might be as far as next June (our 4 year anniversary and my birthday), I know I am super-early...LOL

So here I am hanging out with my fellow 'hope to be's, looking for tips. So far, I think I am excited about the mansion style wedding in September. I look forward to us sharing our proposals together. I pasted a picture of us below :)

Welcome to the boards and congrats!!! You never know the ring could come any day. My FH told me about 3 weeks before i got my ring that he needed time to save money and i need to be patient with him. Then BAM the ring popped up, hehehe. Sometimes they can surprise you...

I have good progress to report....He has been mentioning about saving money to buy the ring, and making some financial moves and last night asked me to give him an education about diamonds and what I am looking for, based on a pamphlet I left him like 3 months ago!

I have hope of Christmas '08 ladies!!
