Has anyone asked their hospital about it? I'm reading Misconceptions and apparently it is a statistic many hospitals will not release.

Re: Hospital C-Section rates
I asked my doc while I was pregnant what their c-section rate is. I went to a group that did the majority of deliveries at my hospital. He said about 15% become c-setions. I said 'well I wont be that statistic' and I was... oh well.

Re: Hospital C-Section rates
The C-section rate at the hospital I'm delivering at costs $1,000 more than a normal ******l delivery. A normal delivery is $2900 and a C-section is $3900. Thank god with our insurance it'll only cost us $250.00. But don't forget, that's here in North Carolina, not NY.

I would ask your provider specifically what his/her rate is. I think the national average is now about 25%. My MW's is 8% of the total deliveries she has ever performed.

Re: Hospital C-Section rates
Melissa, sweetie...she wasn't talking about cost, but rather, how often C-sections are performed.
I think every woman should ask their care provider this question as a normal part of their pre-natal care. And personally, I believe it will vary greatly between individual doctors, NOT the hospital in general. So, speak to your OB/midwife about their care philosophies b/c they may be willing to do a lot more to prevent c-sec, provided you and the baby are in good health and it's not a life-threatening situation.

Thanks everyone, and Claud thanks for the insight into asking the OB/GYN specifically. I didn't think about it, but of course, it's really their rates to consider.

Re: Hospital C-Section rates
i totally agree with claud. you should also ask about their views on medications during birth. one friend i have was told by her doctor that he believes strongly in giving them as soon as it is possible. not every women wants a doctor who will not try to help her cope without meds, while others want a doctor to give them asap. you need to make the best decision for you. also, ask about the episiotomony rate. some are quicker to cut then others.
