Hospitals????

I've heard such terrible things about Stony Brook from some people and have heard some okay ones.
Does anyone here have any input on either of these hospitals?

I just happen to love St.Charles.


However, if you are high risk, or if anything goes wrong you will go to Stony Brook because they have one of the best pediatrics units..

So either way I think youre good. I know people who delivered at both. I delivered at St Charles in July.

I would go for Stony Brook - there are midwives who practice there... and there are private rooms postpartum wtih great views of the Three Village area including the bay. The rooms are free, and it means that dad can automatically stay overnight - there are simply no shared rooms in the Stony Brook postpartum area.

In st. Charles, you have to pay extra for a private room, it may or may not be available, etc. If the mom gets a shared room, the dad cannot stay overnight.

I feel that you have a lot of choices at the Stony Brook hospital concerning natural birth that just don't exist at St. Charles. Moms are allowed to eat and drink, they can move around after their water breaks, the induction methods are gentle (should mom need one), etc.
