What kinds of rates did you ladies get on your hotel blocks? We called two hotels last night, and both of them were $159. IMO, that's a little expensive. FH and I have been to two weddings where we stayed in hotels, and both of them were less than $100. I know we probably won't get that low, but it's really frustrating!
So where are you booked and what is your rate? And how far is it from Franklin Square? (We know nothing about Long Island, we just drove around one day and wrote hotels down).
TIA!

Re: Hotel Block
First of all, LI is expensive. I don't know where the weddings were you attended, but LI is quite $$$. Factor in the summer date of your wedding and voila!
I have blocks at the Residence Inn by Marriott in Plainview. They have really big, beautiful studio and 1bdrm rooms for $149 per night. To me, that's excellent for the summer in LI.

How far is that from Franklin Square? I'm not really familiar with the geography of Long Island.
I know that Long Island is expensive--I grew up in Brooklyn so I'm not a total Long Island neophyte. The hotels we stayed in were in Philly and DC, so both big cities as well.
I just think that $159 is a lot to ask people to pay, especially when they can get better deals through hotels.com.
Are the hotels near JFK far from the Sandcastle? Do you think I should just s uck it up? Can I negotiate?

When I searched for hotels, I mapquested from my RH to the hotels I picked out. I already knew going in that I wanted a Residence Inn so I simply searched for one in Nassau. Since the hotel is 20 minutes from RH, I'm supplying a shuttle van to and from.

The hotel they recommended was the Garden City Hotel, which quoted us $209 a night.
Can anyone recommend any hotels near there? We called the Hampton in and the Holiday Inn Express (I think)

Re: Hotel Block
What about LaQuinta Inn in Garden City? It's about 3 miles from the Sandcastle.
