Hi Ladies, So happy that this is the last major thing I need to do, but my FH and I are at a loss. We can't decide what is important to us for the hotel block: price, shuttle service, breakfast, bar, proximity to the Watermill... So can you tell me what hotel are you booking your block with and why?
AND if you are getting a shuttle from elsewhere, are you using your limo company or...?
THANKS!

Re: Hotel Block Advice Needed!
For us, the important factors were the price for our guests (we have a lot of OOTers), proximity to CHCC and we also wanted a shuttle. We called limo places to add a shuttle with our package, but we thought the prices were too high for us.
We booked with the Hilton Long Island in Melville. They offered a shuttle (it wasn't free, but not as expensive as a party bus from a limo company), a decent room rate for our guests and has a breakfast for everyone each morning. They also have a bar that stays open until 2a.m., which is also something we were looking for.
I'd just start by calling around to local hotels and see what they offer you and pick what is best for you, as everyone differs in some areas. HTH!

we are blocked with the Hyatt Regency in Happauge. my first requirement was that i liked the bridal suite as that is where i will be getting ready. Then i looked at price. They do not offer a shuttle, so i booked a coach bus through my limo company. it was a bit pricey, but i felt we needed it. We are also hosting a breakfast the morning after, but mt FIL's are covering that cost. The Hyatt was really great to work with. you do not have to pay for rooms that do not get booked and (as was our case)they let us add rooms at the blocked rate all the way up until 6 wks before the wedding!

I booked the Sheraton on Motor Parkway Hauppauge. The rate was $119. They started with 10 rooms for fri & sat night and when they are almost booked up they will add more. We are not charged for any that are not booked.
I reserved the Presidential suite as my bridal suite, it is pricey but fantastic.
The bar is open until 2am and there is a restaurant in the hotel. There is no shuttle available to transport over to the Watermill (only airport shuttle service, so I rented a 26 person party bus instead of a limo and I will have that for the whole day. After the BP gets done using it, they will go back to the hotel and it will be used for my guest shuttle. I have that from 9:30 am to 7:00 pm. So they will bring us all back to the hotel after the reception.

We went with a hotel that offered a shuttle if we book a certain amt of rooms. Unforunately, if we dont meet the required rooms we dont get the shuttle and have no backup plan since we are on a budget. I think its a nice gesture if you get a outside shuttle but not expected. Hope you come to a resolution.

I'm not near the Watermill, but we chose the Hyatt in Garden City. Although we saw 'nicer' hotels, this hotel was very nice and most of all affordable. For FH and I, the biggest thing was price- although we wanted some place nice we also don't want people breaking the bank to stay over at a hotel for the wedding.
We are using our limo company for the shuttle. Even with hotels with shuttles 'included' (they don't include it, it just raises the price per room) the limo company was cheaper.
HTH!

Thanks, all! I think we're going to go with the Hampton Inn Islandia. Rachel was wonderful there, and I love that they provide a website for me to put all the info for my overnight guests, and that I can link to and send as a subtle (or notsomuch) hint to those people who wait till the last-minute!

We are doing Hilton Westbury because it had the best combination of all the things you mentioned. On top of that they had a bar where we could have an after party, and their sales manager was great in giving us a tour.

We used Huntington Hilton. They were wonderful to deal with and kept on top of everything! We even had breakfast there in the morning. Annette was our contact.
We were going to use their shuttle for the wedding but the number of guests staying at the hotel kept rising. We ended up with close to 60 guests. We used transtar for our shuttle. He did two round trips and stayed around for the evening in case someone needed to leave and go back to the reception.
