My wedding is February 15th, how long before do I have to arrange a hotel block? Thanks! Also, any suggestions for hotels near Sand Castle.

No suggestions on where to book but most hotels will let you book about 1 year out. I would start looking now. HTH

The closest hotels to the sand castle are on Sunrise Hwy in Lynbrook. I believe there is a Hamption Inn and Holiday Inn Express.

I did my room block about two months ago, and we're not getting married til Oct 2013. We found the rates would only go up, and even if rates stayed low there was the possibility of being booked by the time we needed them.

You'll have a choice between guaranteed or non-guaranteed blocks... we have a LOT of out of town guests, but there is no way I'm going to be financially responsible for people choosing to stay at hotels other than the two we've blocked rooms at!
(I copied the description below from a e-mail exchange I had with a hotel I ultimately booked a block with. They said that as long as there was still room they'd be able to give the block price to our guests even if we exceed the 15 rooms.)
Non-Guaranteed room block - We can hold a maximum of 15 rooms on any day without any financial obligation and with a month prior cutoff date - Guaranteed room block - If you would like to hold more than 15 rooms we can set aside as many rooms from hotel inventory as you would like and you would be financially responsible for 50% (EX: we set aside 30 you would have to guarantee 15)

Not sure how many you have from out of town, but the more you think you will have the more you can bargain the rate. Ask questions now about shuttles and after party. The shuttle helped us get people from LIRR to hotel.
They won't tell you this, but they probably are not giving you the lowest rate (AAA rate etc.). It only really saves money for you if they upgrade you and for last minute guests.
Our hotel, the Sheraton in Hauppauge, was a horror with communication between their 800 number and the hotel. Ask if they have a site where you can check on line how many rooms are booked. Our DOP tipped us off to the fact that they should have given us access to this at the start.
Most hotels limit the number of rooms you can reserve and renew it once the rooms are reserved.
Also, now is the time to request an upgrade for you and your FH to the Presidential Suite and for anyone else you want upgraded to a suite.
