Just starting out looking at hotel blocks. I have nothing tocompare prices too. What would you say is the average? What is TOO much to ask your guests to pay?
TIA

Re: Hotel block price: How much is too much?
We did our block at Danfords since that's where we are getting married, it only made sense. $149/nt. If it's too much, they can find something else is how I look at it.

I probably wouldn't want to spend more than $150.

My room blocks are $135 at the Four Points Sheraton. I wanted to keep it under $150. I wouldn't want to pay over $150 if I were a guest.

They are. Unfortunately I found out after the fact. One of the hotels I looked at was the Hilton Garden Inn in Plainview. When I told her I decided to go with the Four Points, the sales manager asked why. I gave her my reasons, one of which was that they offered a lower price. She said she was sorry to hear that and that she could've worked with me on the rates.

I know you were looking at hotels on the strip by the source mall yesterday. We paid 189 + tax came out to 212 for one night at the holiday inn on that strip. The other guests from the wedding that stayed at the Hilton garden in said it was 200, so it was around the same price.

i was going to book with four points because they had the best rate at $125 but fh thought that 20mins from the venue was to far. then i asked some other people that i know will be staying and i was shocked to find out that they rather pay a little more to have it close as well. go figure

That's our rate there as well. It's even less than the military discount or the AARP discount (believe me, FH's family tried everything to pay less).
Only my obnoxious aunt and uncle who think they're so sly are not staying there with the rest of us. I'm kinda happy I don't have to give them an OOT bag this way. Ha.

Nothing more the $150.
I went to a wedding in NH last June and thats how much we had to pay to stay at the Holiday Inn where they were booked. Funny thing is what I paid with AAA was cheaper then the blocked room rate the lady at the front desk checked for me.

Hotels will def negiotiate. We blocked the Four Points Sheraton. Originally they said $135/night but we got them down to $119/night.

Most of the quotes I received were between $159 and $179. We went with La Quinta in Garden City $159/night for August '09.

Re: Hotel block price: How much is too much?
We negotiated the Hilton Garden Inn in Ronkonkoma down to $99/night for late October, but my friend is using the same hotel for her wedding block and got $130/night (Labor Day weekend). i would expect a rate somewhere in the middle for summertime...
