Hotel Block Question

Hotel Block Question

How much room is there for bargaining for hotel blocks? Is the rate they present pretty much in stone?

I just started calling places, and the lowest I got for September 2007 was $129 (and that was only one place), but most were $149 and up. I'm just wondering if I need to haggle more. What rates are all of you getting?

Try this trick. I haven't done it myself, but I plan to.

Re: Hotel Block Question

I got the impression when I was dealing with the hotels that there wasn't much room for bargaining; although when i went to one they told me $139 for the standard rooms, and when I decided to go ahead and block with them, they were like Ok, well we'll block the standard rooms at $129. So that made me happy. Mayeb they started high figuring I'd want to get them lower, but either way it was the cheapest and easiest for me.

Definitely give the above posters trick a shot, can't be any worse than going to each place in person!

good luck

I looked on-line first and when I went to do the block they were giving me a higher rate. When I told them what it was on-line they matched it. I didn't feel that there was much room for negotiating. My rate was $149 for a regular room and $169 for a suite.

Re: Hotel Block Question

Hi, just curious which hotels you guys have called and what rates you've been given. I've called several and they are so expensive for the quality!
Even staying one night in NYC is less expensive!

So far I've called the following near Westbury:

Wingate: $139/night
Both Hiltons: 140's/night
Best Western on Jericho Tpke: $119/night
Howard Johnson Express: $79/night
Red Roof Inn: $125/night
Garden City Hotel: 140's//night

Wingate seems the best quality for the money so far. I'm curious as to what rates others have been given...

Re: Hotel Block Question

Hampton Inn Brookhaven (Farmingville) - $159 with complimentary shuttle or $149 without (I'd have to pay $300 each way for each shuttle and the shuttle only accommodates 14 - we have 150 OOT guests, not that all will stay)

Radisson (Holtsville) - $129

Holiday Inn Express Stonybrook - $149

Residence Inn (Holtsville) - $149

Marriott (Ronkonkoma I think) - $159

Danford's (Port Jeff) - $189

Unfortunately the Hampton Inn is booked for most of the summer - at least according to the website and Travelocity, so I can't get a rate to compare.

egreene, with that many guests and the limited seating in a shuttle bus you might want to just hire a man with a bus or just rent a bus and have someone in your party help you drive it.

$300 is crazy expensive!

Re: Hotel Block Question

A round trip will be $600, which isn't TOO bad, but if I need to make Multiple trips that round run 1800+! For $10 more per room, I might just go with the $159 rate and the complimentary shuttle. The woman guaranteed that I wouldn't have to pay any extra if we needed Multiple shuttles or trips.
