How does hotel blocking work and in the end who is responsible for payment for the rooms?

Re: Hotel Blocking
guests are! You call up and block the number of rooms that are included in the block you want and you get a discounted rate for them. Guests then call up the hotel you are using and say that they would like to book a room that is blocked for the blah blah wedding.

You call up the hotel and tell them you would like to block rooms for your wedding. You'll have some paperwork to fill out and then when everything is in order you will receive a Block# to tell your guests to mention when booking to receive the discounted room rate.
I'm not sure about all hotels, but the one we are blocked at does not charge you anything to block rooms. They start off with 10 rooms and as those rooms fill up if you need more they will add them. Guests are responsible for paying for the rooms and you won't get charged for any rooms in the block that have not been booked. Our hotel also offers free shuttle service when 10 rooms are booked and a free room for the bride and groom if 15 rooms are booked.
It's the Courtyard Marriot in Farmingdale.

Re: Hotel Blocking
I didn't pay anything for room blocking. I called The Andrew...reserved 10 rooms for 2 nights Fri to Sat and Sat to Sun. They gave me inserts to mail with the invitations and then guests called them to book the room if they wanted it and they paid for it.
