How do hotel blocks work? Should they be near the church or reception (they are about a 40 ride from each other). What do I say when i call the hotel- are there questions to ask? Do they just give me a discounted rate or do I negotiate it? Please help! this is stressing me out!
TIA!
PS- am I expected to provide a shuttle for guest staying at the hotel? Not sure what etiquette is.

Re: Hotel Blocks
our RH is 40 minutes away from the church so we are blocking rooms near the RH (actually the hotel we are using provides shuttle service to and from the RH so that's why we chose it).
You would just call, say that you would like to block rooms at the hotel for your wedding. Ask them how many rooms you are allowed to initially block and makes sure there aren't any fees assosiated with the blocking (most hotels you can block up to about 10-15 rooms before being charged). As the rooms get booked up and you find that you need more, they will most likely let you add on rooms to your block.
You should definitely be getting a discounted price for the rooms. Some places may even offer you a suite for free for the wedding night if you block/book a certain amount of rooms (it's worth a shot to ask).
As far as the shuttle service, it is a nice gesture to have that options for the guests staying there but I wouldn't say it was necessary for you to do this. See what your hotel offers - maybe they have a service they would recommend and you can get a discount or maybe it may be free.

Every hotel is different. I would use a hotel closer to the RH.
Ask your RH if they recommend anyone. The hotel we used did not provide a shuttle so we hired one. Half of our guests were from out of town.
You can negotiate a rate, but they will probably want you to guruantee more rooms which you could be responsible for if they don't get booked.

Re: Hotel Blocks
youre not expected to provide a shuttle but if it can be much appreciated to avoid the drinking and driving between the rh and the hotel. the hotel should be close to the rh, not the church. when you block your rooms they can give you more info regarding shuttles too. good luck!

Hey WM bride! What hotel did you block? Everywhere I ask is like $150/night and I don't think my guests will stay for that.

I would definitely use a hotel that is closer to the RH - a lot of hotels have shuttle service available for free - sometimes you have to pay like $300 for it. Totally up to you.
