Hotel Blocks..
This may be really ridiculous.. but how do you know if you should do a hotel block of not? The majority of our guests are from NY (driving distance). How did you decide to do a hotel block or not?

we have alot of NYers for our wedding, but decided to block off a few rooms for friends who want to hangout at the hotel bar after the wedding. We blocked at the Viana, and they will give you 10 rooms with no booking guarantee. So if nobody books then it's no big deal.. otherwise, any more than 10 rooms and you have to guarantee that 50% book. We blocked 24, and will guarantee 12
I agree. If you can find a hotel that won't hold you accountable for unbooked rooms, then just do the block so no one can hold it against you for not :)
We blocked off 10 rooms so we're not help responsible for those that don't book. I know a few people want to stay just so they don't have to drive home. You're better off booking just so you have it as long as you want have to pay for anything.
FH has some family coming from VA and we'd like to spend some time with them the following day, instead of having them over our house we decided we'd book rooms at a hotel and have a brunch the following morning! We kinda don't want the party and celebrating to end! LOL We booked a block of 15 rooms but we don't have to pay if they don't get booked!
