So FH and I are working on the hotel block and I want to get that done before sending out our STDs (which we already have) because at this point, it would be nice to have the hotel info to send out with them.
anyway, we have a favorite of the 4 we've researched (only got to see rooms at 3 of them) and have a favorite... but i'm getting an awkward feeling making this decision, i guess because this is the part that people are paying for themselves and i basically have to choose which amenities and price combo is best for them. i dont want to suggest they spend more than they want to but i also don't want to suggest they stay at a cheaper place if it's nowhere near as nice as another.
anybody else feel this way?

Re: hotel blocks - awkward?
Fh and I were offered a free room the night of our wedding if our guest stayed at a certain hotel. We found out how much the rooms were and we definitely couldn't ask our guest to spend that much. I think it was around $190.
We scratched that idea and it just so happens that our rh has a hotel right next door. I don't need a shuttle service, my guest can just walk through the parkin' lot and there they are.
IMO, I wouldn't spend more then $150 for a hotel room. Especially when I'm only spending probably 6-8 hrs sleeping in there.

You have to remember too, if people think its too much $ they can always opt to stay at another hotel that fits their budget plus if it fills up they may have to do this anyway

The hotel block was the only part of this planning that I've hated. You are not alone! It's tough cause you want a nice hotel but you don't want to ask people who are already traveling and spending money to spend a million dollars a night. Good luck

I'm worried about this too. I have quite a few OOT guests, and I'm worried about asking them to pay money for rooms on top of traveling expenses. I may do 2 separate room blocks so the guests have a choice with a price point they are comfortable with, but then again I don't know Its a frustrating decision.

Ours is going to be somewhere around $150 and I have a few people that will stay 2 nights, so I also feel guilty. Unfortunately, it's all a part of traveling costs when you are an OOT guest.

Re: hotel blocks - awkward?
Although it's expensive, I did consider what was included when choosing my hotel block. They have lots of amenities and they are within walking distance to the ceremony and reception. To be honest, it may be crazy, but I would pay money just to be able to have fun for a night and not worry about who the DD is.
I didn't want to pay for a shuttle and didn't want guests to drive. So, granted, our hotel is a litle more $$, but the benefits outweigh the price. If they feel differently, then they can use one of the other local hotels. Oh well...

I'm so stresseed about this too. We booked with fox hollow and got a rate of $199 a night. I know its expensive, but its just such a nice hotel. It also comes with the shuttle that we are using to pick people up from the LIR if they need it. Were supplying the shuttle from the hotel to the venue and doing really nice gift bags for everyone. it also includes breakfast. i hope we made the right choice. im stressed that people will think we were rude for booking that hotel
I agree with you about making this kind of decision, but your OOT guests also have the option of doing their own research and maybe finding something cheaper but maybe not as nice. It really is their ultimate decision. You are not forcing them to choose the hotel you blocked and they should know that. I think my biggest thing is picking a nice and clean hotel, although price is a major factor as well. Good Luck!

Re: hotel blocks - awkward?
What about two hotel blocks? One at a less expensive place and one at nicer place? We only booked at one place, but I think we got a great deal. FM me if you want details

Re: hotel blocks - awkward?
thanks for letting me know i'm not alone haha and for some good suggestions
we will have a ton of OOTers so 2 blocks might not be a bad idea, i will have to look into this further..
the one we thing we're going with is 150 a night and it's only $10 more than another hotel that has about the same amenities but is much nicer than the other one IMO. do you think 150 is too much?
another benefit of the hotel we like is that the rooms are very big and between 2 queens and a queen sleeper sofa you can fit 6 people and still have room to walk around....which will be nice for large families and our college friends who pile a bunch of ppl in a room.

Re: hotel blocks - awkward?
i did one hotel for the simple reason that I wanted the guests who chose to stay over to join everyone for a brunch the next morning before they leave.
i also picked a hotel with a bar that stayed open after the wedding for those people who were interested in meeting up for drinks after the wedding (on them).
there are tons of hotels out there with reasonable prices (and most offer the free room if you book a certain amount of rooms for the b&g). i would pick one that you like (tour it!!!!) and thats nice and then leave it up to the guests if they want to stay there or not...
i've never complained about having to pay for the room a b&g picked for their wedding block. and if they don't like it then they don't have to stay.. dont stress out over this one!! it's not worth it!!
