Hotel Blocks for OOT'ers?

Hotel Blocks for OOT'ers?

Hi Girls,
I'm wondering what you all did/are doing for hotel blocks?

We have OOT'ers for his side and whatever coworkers that come. Our wedding is in Long Island.
I'm contemplating even if we should do hotel blocks and if so where. The only ones I really seeing using the hotel blocks is maybe some of the older aunts and uncles from his mom's side.
And if we do it I wonder if I should do it closer to the wedding site or closer to touristy stuff in Manhattan?

Any recommendations near Oakdale that is close to mass transport?

I will, regardless, be providing lots of different recommendations on our wedding website of hotels/bnbs/vacation rentals near our wedding site and in Manhatten.

Thanks!

I am doing it - my reception hall has a deal with a local hotel and it includes a shuttle to and from.

We (FH and I) have a lot of out of town people - also he is from suffolk and the wedding is in nassau, figured most people wouldn't want to drive home. The limit is 10 rooms which is all I am doing to get the shuttle.

I would ask your RH if they have any reccos - I think its a great idea for people, especially if you have a lot of OOT guests. I also think having it closer to your wedding location is more important - kind of the point for you to have the block to make their lives easier.

I would definitely get a block of rooms ...

hotel i'm using allows a block of 15 rooms to be reserved at no charge. so even if nobody uses it, it's not hurting my budget). If you think you might need more than that but don't want to risk having to pay, you could always reserve rooms in 2 or more hotels :)

I blocked out rooms at the Holiday Inn Express and they're providing free shuttles. The rates are reasonable too.

A friend of mine is getting married at WM and she's also using a Holiday Inn Express that is providing transportation.

I like not having to worry about people drinking and driving.

I am having the same issue. I know some of my guests will be travelling to NY for the first time and I know that it would be great for them if they can tour NY but the city is far from my RH in LI. IDK....I'm still wondering what should I do.

you can always reserve 2 diff hotels - one for people who want to be close to the venue, and one for people who want to be in the city :)

That's actually a great idea.

Now what to do about family who have no intention of staying in a hotel and have already made plans to crash at your house, and no intention of renting a car?

I'm actually talking with some hotels in LI and Manhattan right now too. :)
Three in LI that I'm trying to find no more than 20 minutes from our venue and hopefully near LIRR. In Manhattan so far I've contacted Chelsea Savoy (suppose to be a good budget hotel) and I like that it's near Penn Station for LIRR.

I'm talking with some hotels right now for blocks. Just wondering what you ladies have part of your block?
Obviously I want rooms set aside for a certain rate, however they can do it without me having to put any money down on it if no one books.
I want them to include shuttle transportation between hotel & venue.
They are offering me a discount rate on a event space for after party.
I'm looking for hotels that include complimentary breakfast.

Anything else?

Thanks!

P.S. These are the three in LI I've contacted thus far:
Holiday Inn - Hauppauge
Wingate by Wyndham Commack
Marriot Islandia
