Do you think I need to book a hotel block? I probably only have about 6 couples who would need rooms and I know that most hotels require at least 10 rooms to hold the rooms. What has your experience been with booking them and do you feel that I need to reserve them? Do they really save that much money in reserving through a hotel block?
My other issue is we are getting married the friday of Memorial Day weekend. Ugh I have been going back and forth for months and IDK what to do. Any input would be appreciated! TIA!

if you don't have to pay for the rooms that don't get booked, I would def do it! (Hyatt Regency on motor pkwy has this policy) I thought only a few people would stay the night, we actually had to up the number of room twice! Since its a holiday weekend, the block will allow people to make a mini vaca out of it.

Since it is a holiday weekend, I think it's probably best to have a room block. Many hotels don't require a payment and if you don't use all the rooms in your block, they are just released back to the hotel at no charge to you. I'd at least call around and get pricing, since it will be a holiday weekend, it may worth it to get a discounted rate. Good luck!

Most do not ask for a deposit. As long as that is the case, I don't see the harm in setting one up anyway. It may be easier for your guests if you have a chosen hotel. Im booked at the Hilton Garden Inn in Islip and don't believe I have a minimum# of rooms. Call Christina over there...she's great! Good luck

I say get the block, you'd be shocked at who books the rooms. Our friends that live on the island are booking so they don't have to drink and drive. Islandia Marriott does not require any $ from you, just a credit card to hold to block and you are not responsible for any rooms that are not taken. Your guests have until x amount of weeks (I think 4) before your wedding to book and if they don't the unbooked rooms go back to the general public. The whole thing is at no cost to you except the leg work of getting it booked and getting the info out to those who need it.

since its a holiday weekend, I think it would be a nice idea to put a block together as long as you will not be charged for the extra rooms. I know the Sheraton Hauppague is not charging us for the rooms not booked.

Re: hotel blocks reservations
I would block off rooms... I have already had to increase the number of rooms in my block because a lot of our friends want to stay in the hotel and not worry about drinking and driving... A lot of hotels will just release the extra hotel rooms back into the computer system a month before the wedding. (A few hotels that I looked at all said the same thing.) Especially since it is a holiday weekend its better to be safe and have them reserved =)

I would! we don't have that many OOT guest but a lot of my family wants to stay the night there, because we're getting married at an Inn & it's convenient for them!. We blocked 11 rooms, we did have to put down a deposit but we don't get charged for the rooms if they aren't used, it will actually go towards our final payment for our wedding.

Im using the courtyard marriot in ronkonkoma and I am pretty sure if the rooms dont get booked by like a month before your wedding they just take them off your reserved list. Call and ask.

This! There is no fee either and they are super nice!!! I dont expect many of my OOT to attend but I know I will have less then 5 that will book. No harm no foul if you dont have to pay to reserve!! You just wont get the free shuttle for them.
