So I got in touch with the hotel that was recommended to me by my venue and they were charging $179/night which included a shuttle. We were a little concerned that some people would opt out because it is a little high and also 20 mins away from our reception. If we blocked more than 10 rooms, we become financially responsible so we didn't know what number to give him because we don't have a lot of OOT people, it would just be more for convenience with drinking and driving. SO, we got in contact with a hotel that's closer and only $112/night but doesn't include a shuttle. In this case, we would obviously just pay for a shuttle through the limo company but they only have 10 rooms available!
Sorry for the long story lol
So my question is, do we just do a first come, first serve basis? Or only offer the $179/night because we know that everyone will fit there?

I don't think $179 is a lot, that seems standard and the fact that it includes shuttle is great. The last wedding we stayed at hotel and paid $199 for hotel. My hotel is $169 and doesn't include the shuttle. I say book the one with the shuttle it will be less headache

I would ask your friends if they plan on staying. that's what I'm doing bc my hall is actually only 10muns away from most of our guests. it's in Bethpage almost everyone loves in farmingdale or Massapequa and the closest hotel it's prob 110 in farmingdale anyway. so my long point is I plan to ask at least my friends to get a feel for whether I should do it or not. hope that makes sense!

I actually have three hotel blocks, lol. The East Wind only had 6 rooms available the night of my wedding, which was a bummer. So I contacted two other hotels and reserved to rooms at eatch at $209 and $112 a night. Neither includes a shuttle. At the East Wind, I did have to leave a deposit for the rooms, but as soon as all 6 are booked, I get that back. The other two hotels didn't require any deposit. If all of the rooms haven't booked a month before the wedding, they will release the rooms and it's first come first serve for my guests and they're not guaranteed the block rate.
If you're worried about friends drinking/driving, I would def do the one with the shuttle, it's less of a hassle. But definitely ask around first (you might be surprised) to see who would be interested.

Remember people also may be sharing the room. The last wedding I went to the room was $200 but between four of us it wasn't too bad!

$179 isn't too bad. Our hotel is $149 but doesn't have a shuttle. There was a hotel in the area that was $179 with shuttle but I was trying to save guests money. Now it turns out some of my bridal party feels $149 is too much which is a little frustration
