How early do you usually need to hold a block of hotel rooms? I haven't got around to it yet and I hope its not too late! How early did you guys do it? What did they ask/require of you?
TIA!

Re: Hotel room blocks?
We did ours already... my hotel was a pita, but I think it's supposed to be pretty easy in general.

Re: Hotel room blocks?
I did mine about a year in advance - mostly because we needed a hotel out in Riverhead and knew it would be difficult to get for August. You have time, but can always start looking into it.

Re: Hotel room blocks?
Honestly - I love EVERYTHING about the East Wind, but JMO - their room block policy is absolutely ridiculous - I am doing it anyway, but I really think it is a shame of what they ask for the room block with everything else we are spending money on. But anyway - they urged us to block the rooms asap - we booked the wedding back in the beginning of november - our wedding is the middle of october - and I just blocked 5 rooms like a week ago.

Re: Hotel room blocks?
If you don't mind my asking, what was it that East Wind wanted you to do? I am seriously considering having my wedding there, but would love a heads up before booking anything.
Thanks

We just did ours - we're 4 1/2 months away. They just ask you the date, how many rooms, etc.

Re: Hotel room blocks?
Its definitely not too late, but if you do it on the early side, you might have more negotiating power. We did ours 15 months in advance, and saved $50 on the rate.

East Wind requires that you put a down payment on the rooms that you block and guarantee them. So if they don't get booked you pay for them. It definitely suks.

Re: Hotel room blocks?
I don't think it's too late.
I did mine a month ago. My hotel blocks 10 rooms at a time and if I need more, they will add more. Some places offer shuttles so ask about that, some don't. Ask about the price.
Most places will hold the rooms until a month before your wedding and then it's first come first serve.
I would do it as soon as you can, but no rush! Call around to get different prices and see where there is a good deal. I'm going through Courtyard Marriott in Farmingdale and it's a good deal IMO.
