hotel stress - just venting
I can't stand the fact that these hotels make you responsible for 1/2 the rooms you reserve. I do have a lot of out of town guests, but who knows what they want to pay. Location isn't always everyones priorities and since there are no hotels really nearby who knows what everyone is going to do?!?! I reserved the min. (10 rooms) @ the Mariott Melville. I hope 5 people reserve rooms! I'm sure they will, but the stress of thinking about it UGH!!!

I had no idea they did that! That is so wrong!! We reserved the Ramada in Riverhead because we will be at the East Wind. I havent gotten the contract yet but she didnt say there was a penalty or charge... hmmm good to know.. sorry to hear about that. That would make me mad. Just one more thing to worry about. But since you have alot of out of towners, keep mentioning it to them about the hotel! Maybe if you say it enough... they will go there. : )

Hmmm, and only to think that half of the wedding (actually maybe a third) will be coming from Buffalo to stay at a hotel! I can hardly wait for that...something we will be doing very soon since we have July 4th 2002! Nancy

I think the policy is different with every hotel - maybe you could check some others. At the Ramada in Bayside, they held 15 rooms for us up until a month before. As long as 10 are booked, the guests will get the reduced rate, otherwise they pay the full rate, although he told us they'd probably honor it if we got 8 booked (maybe because it's for this next week - April is not exactly high season) We also booked a second, more expensive hotel and since they are smaller, they went by 'room nights' - not counting the people, but the number of nights booked. We estimated 35 'room nights' (my parents and bridesmaids were coming in early) 3 months before, we could adjust that number downward, and 2 months before we would be responsible for half that number. At the 3 month deadline we had already hit the minimum, and ended up with 40 room nights booked. So check around - you might be able to find a better deal, and if the hotel is not as convenient, go back to the first and see if you can bargain, telling them you'll go elsewhere if they won't match the deal. Good luck!

Don't feel bad. There are NO hotels where I am getting married! Just Bed&Breakfasts! I would say that at least 1/2 of my wedding is going to stay over and the closest rooms we could get were only 14 at the Ramada in Riverhead. My guests are going to have to drive over 45 minutes to stay overnight. What a pain.Welcome New Vendors
