I'm thinking of doing a block of rooms at a hotel near my CH. 1. Does anyone know how far in advance I have to book? 2. If I do a block of rooms and not all of them go does anyone know if I have to pay for them myself? 3. Do I leave my credit card information as a hold?

Re: Hotels
It really depends on the hotel. The one I made the hotel block with doesn't not require you to put down any money. They stop the special rate a month before your event.
Some hotels I looked at required me to book at least 7% of the rooms i was blocking or the rates went back up.
Some said that if I didn't book all the rooms I blocked then I would have to pay for the rooms that weren't blocked.
The Huntington Hilton doesn't do that when making hotel blocks . You can block room when ever you feel like.

Re: Hotels
1) I'm not sure what the standard is as far as when to block. But we blocked ours 14 months ahead, and since they had so much availability, lowered the rate $40.
2) Depends on the hotel. We have to guarentee 60% get taken. If we are under, we have to pay for the rooms to make up the difference.
3) We had to sign a contract and leave a CC number.

Re: Hotels
It really depends on the hotel's policy. We blocked the Best Western at Woodbury, NY. 1) we blocked a year and a half in advance but I think a year is sufficient enough 2) According to their policy, we need to guarantee 70% of the rooms blocked. If we don't get 70%, then the rooms will go back to standard rates. 3) we did not have to leave our credit card info. we will probably have to once we block rooms for ourselves
