FH just booked our flighht for our Italian honeymoon!! Now he's looking into hotels.
Can anyone recommend nice hotels that are centrally located in any of the following cities?:
Rome Venice Florence Amalfi Coast Portofino

As far as the Amalfi Coast, I would HIGHLY recommend the Villa Rosa in Positano. It's very beautiful and comfortable with great views! I think I remember it being moderately priced (though that area will end up being a little pricey). IMO that is the most beautiful, romantic areas of Italy, and worth it for one of your 'splurge' places, anyway.
You also might want to pick up a Karen Brown B&B book for Italy. Her books have some of the most unique places, and I think that's where most of the hotels on our Italy trip came from.

We're staying at the Hotel Splendido in Portofino for part of our honeymoon...always ranked one of the best in the world.

For our honeymoon we stayed at Hotel Splendido (Portofino), Villa San Michele (in Fiesole about 15 minutes outside of Florence in the countryside), and Hotel Poseidon in Positano and Palazzo Sasso in Ravello. both on the Amalfi Coast.

La Siraneuse in Positano. One of the top hotels IN THE WORLD!!!
Almalfi Coast: We are staying in Sorrento, it's a great location, and we will make day trips to Capri, Positano, etc. This is a great hotel in Sorrento: Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria: http://www.exvitt.it/
