My fiance and I went this weekend to check out hotels to recommend for our guests. To those of you who had, or are having, their wedding at the Riviera, which hotel(s) did you recommend? Will you be providing a shuttle for your guests? And do you have a financial obligation to the hotel when you arrange for a block of rooms?

Re: Hotels near wedding venue
I am not getting married at the riviera, but I do live in the area and wanted to keep my OOT fam close.
I reserved a block of rooms at the Best Western Bar Harbour Inn on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park. I checked out the rooms, and they are decent looking. The reserved rate was the cheapest I found also. I was able to reserve 10 rooms until 30 days before the wedding with no financial obligation.
No shuttle service.

As you know, we are getting married at the riviera too! We were between the Hampton Inn in Garden City and the La Quinta in Garden City. The LaQuinta has a bar there, if that is important to you. They also have a 15 person shuttle bus that you can use if you book a certain amount of rooms. But we chose the Hampton because it was $40 less per room which was important to us to have affordable places since half of our guests are OOT. And they have free breakfast! We didn't care that it doesn't have a bar, but they do have a beautiful conference room you can use. We are also providing a shuttle (school bus) to and from the Riviera. Its about a 15-20 min drive from the hotel. HTH!
ETA: We asked for 20 rooms for Thurs, Fri and Sat of our wedding weekend (wedding is actually Sat). They are reserved until 30 days before the wedding and if any are not reserved by then, they release them with no financial obligation to us!

My BIL got married there and they stayed at the Best Western on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa. They had shuttles...dont know if it was extra or provided though
You have no obligation to pay when you block hotel rooms.

i didn't realize those hotels were that close to the riviera. we were looking at the courtyard marriot and the hilton... did you check those out? unfortunately, the hilton no longer has group rates for sat night, but we may be able to get them for sunday night.
do you just pay a flat fee for the bus and they do back-and-forth trips all night? that's a good idea instead of a van, which we were told holds up to 11.

The courtyard Marriott in Farmingdale is where we stayed after and it was amazing!!!! You get a shuttle with then if you have 10 rooms booked...15 rooms you and hubby get a free room. They let us bring our own beer and hang out in the lobby all night. very fun. I highly recommend them. Great deals too!

We didn't check out the courtyard, but we did check out the Mariott in Uniondale as well. They were on par with La Quinta rates, but didn't offer the free breakfast or shuttle so we nixed them!
For the bus, we just have it making one trip since by the time people get on the bus, get to the riviera then the bus gets back to the hotel, thats a good 30-40 minutes. So we are just having one drop off and one pick up with the bus, and you snooze you lose!

we went to the uniondale marriot as well... we liked the thought of possibly doing our rehearsal dinner there, as well as a breakfast the following morning. we like the hilton better, but at the price point, it may not be do-able. my fiance's going to work on that part...
with the la quinta, the shuttle/bus is complimentary?? that's a nice perk, if so!! i wish we had checked it out... maybe i'll tell my fiance to inquire about that one, too. sounds like it offers a lot!

Re: Hotels near wedding venue
We blocked our rooms at The Courtyard Marriot Republic Airport/Farmingdale. They have been nothing but super helpful to me whenever I call them and the hotel is very nice. We also got a good rate on both the regular guest rooms and our suite.
You are not financially obligated for the rooms. You call up to speak with someone in Group Slaes and they will work out a rate for you and send you a proposal which you will look over, sign and fax back. You'll then receive a Group Code once everything is set up on their end and your guests will use this code when booking to receive the discounted rate.
For every 10 rooms booked, you will receive free shuttle service to and from the Riviera (you will work out times with them later on).
For every 15 rooms booked, you and Fh will get a free room for the night (a reg. room though - not the suite).

I'm using the courtyard in farmingdale by Republic... Jessica has been great to work with!
They will let you use the shuttle for your guest free if you get 10 rooms booked in your hotel block...

Re: Hotels near wedding venue
it looks like things are working out for the hilton as our 'main' recommendation, with the courtyard marriot as another option.
both are pretty near the riviera, and we like the hilton so that we can do our rehearsal dinner, and breakfast after the wedding, there.
we can finally update our wedding website with hotel accommodations - yay!!
