I'm so happy I just announced on the NW board that we found out we are moving back to Florida. We are heading towards the Navarre Beach/Ft. Walton area and luckily we should be stationed there for atleast 10 years! So, we are finally done renting houses or apartments and are looking towards getting a VA loan (anyone have one, or have any knowlegde on them) since we don't have much of a down payment because it was just sprung on us and we have to be there by June 1st.
Now, I'm not that used to home buying, I understand selling somewhat because of my parents selling there home but also it is NY style so naturally it is longer then what we should have down in Florida.
We are driving from Texas to Florida next week to do some serious househunting and hope to be in contract by time we leave. Now we have heard from some people that you can get your taxes included into your mortage payment? Also do closing fees and whatnot go into your mortage ?
If anyone can offer any input (and again its a Florida house buying experience and a VA loan) I would greatly appreciate any help or input or if anyone knows of any good posts on here you can bump up that would be helpful I'd appreciate that as well!!
Thanks Ladies

Re: Hounehunting in NW Florida and VA Loans
I believe that Florida only require a 5% downpayment.. You should def check it out.. Also, VA loans are the way to go if you are eligable.. My aunt and uncle (he's a VA) did this and the perks are unbelievable!!
All the best to you..

Thanks, yup we are definetly eligable Dh has over 2 years in already and has atleast 10 years left of his commitment. We are still in shock that we are are buying a house, last week we thought we were moving to Japan for three years! VA now does construction loans also so we are excitied about that...
Also, are you able to go through more then one realtor. We have one already who I have contacted he is retired military so we sorta 'trust' that he understands are money situation better. But I wasen't sure if that means we are only locked into him?

We used a VA Loan. Any questions you can ask me. The benefits that I can think of real quick are no PMI and you can take up to 240k without putting a penny down. I think since you are going to be in Florida that should cover you guys.
Though if it doesn't VA only requires you to put down 25% of the amount over 240k. So if you buy a house for 250k. You have to put down 25% of 10K.
I can't think of anything else. Everyone takes VA. You do not have to go to certain realtor or anything.
