Hi Ldadies, FH and I are trying to decide what to do right away.
For those who live in apartments or condo communities...where are they? Are there some nice apartment communites out there?
For those purchasing houses what areas are you looking into?

I'm buying a co-op in Islip. It's a bit of a hassle to get in but they're really cheap right now and you don't have to worry about mowing and all that.

We're focusing our search in two vicinities, each local to one grandma for future kiddies..
Further east, Smithtown and Three Village districts...all towns.
Further west, Northport/East Northport/Huntington villages/Dix Hills.
We're hoping for a house, but may have to do an appartment for a year.

Re: House, Condo, Apartment???
We found an apartment in a private house in farmingdale, we love it, and actually found it on craigslist, we have the main and lower levels of a split and have tenants above us....landlord lives off premises, and we have parking for 2 cars and use of the yard, which we love, we're going to be there until we're ready to buy a house and it's great, because even though the market is such that houses are cheaper, brokers and banks want more money down plus mortgage insurance and a years worth of taxes up front and with a wedding coming up, we couldn't even THINK about affording that! Good luck!!!

Are you talking about the Pulte homes ones? FH and I went there about a year or so ago when they were building them, and they were not that cheap. You are right by the mall in Amityville and the taxes were ridiculous!

Have you checked out MLSLI.com? Click on the condos section and you will probably find something with info on it.

Yeah, we are saving up for a house--you don't have to worry about going up in front of a co-op board to be approved. Seriously, I wouldn't want the added pressure of potentially NOT being accepted to live in their complex. Once all is said and done with a mortgage and monthly maintenance fees, you're not so far away from a complete monthly mortgage payment for a house--not to mention that it's yours and yours ALONE.
