OK so a family friend (of FILs ) daughter is getting divorced post holiday's and is selling their home... she told us shed be putting it up sometime in jan and wanted to knwo if we were interested and i say sure why not? FH said he's not sure if thats a good idea cuz it was the home of a bad marriage... whats everyones opinions on this? (i hope this isnt a controversial subject ) plus were not even sure if we can afford it but its worth a look i think!

If it's a good price and it's what you're looking for, don't worry about who lived there before! Houses are too much money to let previous owners affect your decision. And any other house on the market could have had worse going on with the previous owners that lived there. When you move in, you make that house yours.

I say go for it if you can. Look, when you go looking at houses on the open market you have no idea what kind of history they hold. Think of it that way. There's no guarantee that any house you bid on and/or someday own wasn't home to a bad marriage/life etc. You can't think about that, not only is it the past, but it's someone else's past. You have to think of the future and make the house your own.

I wouldn't be worried...besides you can have your house blessed when you move in. It's not like it's a wedding ring or something like that. Good luck!!

I know it doesn't mean anything but when we were looking for a house, there was one with a couple that was getting divorced and it was a great price. When we went to look at it a second time both FH and I left with a really bad feeling about it.
We bought a house from a nice couple who built the house, lived in it for 30 years, had two successful girls, and moved on to a retiement community.

When we went through closing the wife and I were in tears. She gave me a huge hug and said I am so glad to be passing this house on to a young couple. We hope you have as many happy memoires in this house as we did. I even met the daughter and she said the same thing....

I am all about good feelings. So go with your gut.....

When you walk in you will know. FH and I looked at a million homes and every time we left a house we kept going back to the house we bought. It was meant to be. It was even more east than I wanted to go, but there was something about it that kept telling me to go for it.

Re: house, cursed?

I grew up in the sticks in Florida and my grandparents lived at the edge of a pine forest. When I would sleep there me, my uncle (4 years older) and my older cousin would swear that UFO's were landing in the forest because of all the lights out there. Turns out, there was a prison on the other side of the forest (minimum security) and it was search parties. Yeah, that's much better!!!

Think of it this way....if you buy the house from strangers who knows what went on in that house?!

Re: house, cursed?

The house we bought was from a couple who were divorced, they had broken up in the1980's but she kept the house and he moved out, she raised the kids remarried, and then in 2006 they put it up and split the profit.

The house next door to me, they were getting divorced, 2 kids, and they sold it to a couple with a 2 year old boy.

I really dont think that kinda stuff matters
and good luck finding a house that doesnt have some kind of backstory
