Is anyone going to buy a house before their wedding. My FI and I are. We did not want to spend over 250,000, but that does not seem likely. I don't know what we are going to do. We already decided to look in North Babylon or somewher else in Suffolk. Just wanted to see what everyone else was doing. I did not want to waste money renting, but we'll see what happens!!!

Re: House Hunting
I do not live in NY anymore but we in the house market as well. We also had to up our price range if we plan to buy something decent and that does not need a lot of work.
Just want to wish you all good luck and happy house hunting.

Re: House Hunting
The reason why we had a 2 1/2 year engagement is so that we can save for a house and buy it BEFORE the wedding. .The last thing we want to do is pay rent for SOMEONE ELSE'S mortgage when we can pay our own. .He wants to stay in our hometown and houses here do not go for less then $300,000 and that's a run down shack! People are out of their minds. . . the homeowners for putting outragous prices on houses that are clearly not worth it. . .and the people who pay these prices. AAAAAHHHH it's driving me crazy . . hopefully the prices will drop somewhat by the end of the year so we don't wind up paying $400,000 for a small cape. which I REFUSE to do. I can't wait to start some serious house hunting!!!

We also have a somewhat long engagement so we can save for a house. The prices are insane. I hape things get better by next year. You don't get much for the money that's for sure!!!
We have to save for the house and half the wedding. :(

Re: House Hunting
We also are having a long engagement. We got engaged Christmas of 2001 and are getting married May2004. So we have a two and a half year engagement. Everyone always says,'Wow why so long!' Then I have to explain that we want a house before we get married. It is very annoying . I don't think prices are going to drop drastically. If they do the interest rates will just go up. I think it is going to be very depressing when we start to seriously look

I tell them the same thing. Matt and I don't live together. We always have to tell them we want a house before we get married. The last thing I want to do is put money into paying rent and owning nothing!!!

I always wanted 'At Last' by Etta James, but so many people use that song. How about you?

Re: House Hunting
we started looking now, but not too seriously. I think we will start sometime over the summer. We will probably wait to buy until after the summer, because prices may drop a little by Autumn.
