i can sympathize! i dont know how these people are coming up with estimated values so high. once you take a look inside, you see everything needs updating.

we just put in an offer on one house we loved, countered with the sellers for what seemed like forever, and settled on our top bid. once we got an inspector in there, they needed new plumbing, new electrical, appliances were 15 yrs old, water heater/boiler almost 30 years old. it was a mess- we walked away!

back to the drawing board!

yeah its so very true. Some people try to sell their place for the same amount others are asking for just bc its in the same area and same size and everything but meanwhile the other one will have all updated kitchen appliances, renovated bathrooms and all that and the other will be a piece of crap

yeah its so true about the plumbing and electrical and all that. We looked at a place for an amazing price. It needed some work like the kitchen and a few things here and there so it wasnt that bad. Then we went back with our parents to look and my mom noticed some things and pointed it out to us. First she loved it too but then said, well it might need more work and said she was thinking about it and the fact that the old lady who lived there hadnt done work in the longest time. My mom noticed the pipes through the place, electrical and all that. She mentioned how not only do they do an appraisal for the home but theyre going to come in and check the plumbing and all that and with this place it would need alot to be fixed just based on that.

some people get lucky and find a place quickly but others have to search for a very long time. ALSO if you see a place you like and they are asking for more than you want to pay for it then dont be afraid to make a lower offer. One thing people do is put their home at a higher price bc most people do negotiate the price so this way even if they go with a lower offer it will be something they wouldn't mind selling it for

we have a buyer agent...and we have found so many that we like...i think we finally narrowed it down to one! You really have to pick a small area where you would want a house...and then keep an open mind!

Even though you are working with an agent, keep looking online too. FH and I found our house on trulia.com

Maybe you'll see something that the agent missed.

It's very hard to find something updated in a decent price range. Our agent told us our best option would probably be an old couple that has maintained the house and doesn't need much work. That's pretty much what happened.

i think the houses in massapequa park are good i just bought a house here in july 2007. all i had to do was paint the walls nothing else needed to be done. i have a ranch 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms kitchen, dinning room, living room attic and basement. it's a great area great town.

We were looking at house after house and couldn't find anything we loved either. Our house kind of dropped in our laps at a great price. It's not perfect but has so much potential. Keep looking, it will get easier!

totally discouraged.. i cant believe the shiit boxes that are out there.. youd think that people would even CLEAN UP their house to make it presentable. At least TRY to make the house look livable - i know its bad to say but appearence is the first thing you pick up on (not the pipes or etc) it is what makes you WANT the house and people arent even trying and they have the balls to price these houses as if they were in MINT condition.

if i see one more house that is dirty, filthy, has cockoroaches, or mold im going to flip out

so yes i feel your pain because we havent seen anything we like!!

I KNOW W** is wrong with some people. An agent showed us one place and i have NEVER seen a messier place, i mean the people knew we were going to see it. There were clothes EVERYWHERE just thrown around and i mean on the floor, on the couches even in the hallway. There was so much garbage on the floor such as bags, make up, random items. I have never seen anything like that it was disgusting.

Then yeah others have places that need ALOT of work and try to price it at higher prices, trying to sell it for the same amount another place that is similar in the same neighborhood is selling for. The difference is that you would have to put in alot more money to fix the place so these people are crazy
