Anybody know of any going on? Preferibly in the Suffolk area. We entered one a while back, but didn't win. It's worth a shot though to try some more.

Re: House lotteries...
I'm pretty sure there are no more in progress now since the Huntington drawing. When we got our mortgage we went to classes through the Community Development Corporation link . Though it isn't like the lotteries, they do help find the best assistance in terms of closing costs and finding mortgages with little down payment. A co-op might be your cheapest option--some cost in the low to mid 100's and wouldn't require too much $ down.... Good luck, I'll keep my eyes peeled for you!

There was a drawing in November for some new homes (maybe condos? don't remember) for low-income families (by Long Island standards) in Nassau and Suffolk. The prices were much less than market value.

I don't know much about that area, but I read they were doing it to revitalize the area...Take from that what you will, but the article said they were very nice inside...

Re: House lotteries...
I heard on News 12 about a housing lotto for condos being built in Yaphank.
Someone mentioned Community Development. We started going through it and even though we don't qualify for any of the grants we were quoted an excellent interest rate by going through a bank they work with (bank of new york). It's definitely worth a shot. Depending on how much you make you may qualify for grants and/or assitance with a down payment and closing costs.
