Ok, since we are all 'Long Island' Brides..... then we all know! WHERE ARE WE SUPPOSED TO LIVE AFTER WE GET MARRIED. Me and FH don't make bad money, but come on...... you can NOT find a house ( in a good neighborhood at least ) for under $300, 000......
we were thinking of moving out of state...but im scared to leave our families.....so im thinking we're just gonna have do the apartment thing until little footsteps come along..
Anyone else have any house luck?

Re: houses....
We bought our house before the market went through the roof - thank God. But one suggestion I have is buy a house with a legal accessory apartment in it. That way you can apply the rental income to your mortgage payment. Thats what we did (high ranch and we have the whole upstairs) After we put the rental income towards the mortgage payment, we only have to pay about $900 month to live in our own house.

Re: houses....
I teach in the Bronx and FH works in Westchester. We like Queens but can't afford a house. And even the co-ops here are getting so expensive. We are going to look in Putnam- it's not cheap, but we'll get more for our money and taxes are lower.

Re: houses....
Sorry to post a negative, be we also are renting, and we are moving out of state.
DH makes too much money to qualify for the First-time homeowners incentive programs, and the down paymnt is way too much for us right now (as I am going back to grad school next year).
We could not find anything under $375,000 in theneigborhoods that we liked (with enough property & rooms), so we are moving to either Pennsylvania or Connecticut (on the north border, not near the Sound).

Re: houses....
FH and I met in Philadelphia, but planned on moving back to NY after I graduated from law school... which never happened... both because I couldn't find a job in NY and because we just couldn't afford it... but it worked out well because now we have a house literally 10 miles from downtown Philadelphia, in a beautiful neighborhood with lots of space... 1800 square feet, 1/4 acre for $240k... very affordable... we love the house, love being so close to downtown Philly, and it only takes an hour and a half to go up to LI to visit the family... so, I don't think we'll be moving to NY anytime soon! (sorry matron!!)
