Housewarming gifts - any advice?

My in-laws just purchased a home in Florida and we would like to give them something for Christmas relating to their new home.

We were thinking of a little plaque that says their name and the year they bought the house. What do you think? Can you recommend any websites that sell them?

As a new homeowner, what were the best gifts you received?

Thanks!

Edited for spelling..

We usually give Home Depot gift certificates. Not very original

Re: Housewarming gifts - any advice?

I loved the home depot gift cert. too. I also loved any qift cert to resturants since right after the closing you have very little money to spend on yourselves. A night out was great. I also received this great gift basket with all kinds of seasonal decorations. This is my first house so I had nothing. I had also received a windchime with a poem about how everytime the wind makes it chime, good luck and fortune are brought to your home. Another great gift I received was a brass door knocker and it also had a poem that I can't recall now but was sweet.

I always give this really pretty white washed sign that I got at the pouporri webite, it says Home in the backgound and across it in light letter sit says 'where your story begins'. It about $30

Re: Housewarming gifts - any advice?

we got some plants, which was great b/c buying them was the last thing on my mind but made the house home-y. Like we got a mum plant for our stoop, etc.

Maybe notecards/address labels so they can keep in touch with family/friends in NY?

I really like your plaque idea tho - i'm sure there are a few websites that sell them out there. There are a few local holiday craft sales/fairs going on (if not now, soon i'm sure), i bet one of the vendors will be able to help you!
